If Elon Musk ends up destroying Twitter because of his nonsense (or other people's nonsense, or some combination of the two), that will already be more of a net positive in my mind than anything he could do with the platform.

People really need to understand that de-centralized social media is the future, and the moment people start taking a serious look at Odyssey, Minds, Rumble, and the Fediverse, the better off we'll all be.


This spat that Elon Musk is having with AOC is nice and all, but I'm more wanting to see what happens when he finally purges all the bots.

I assume the like-to-comment ratio of so-called "banger" tweets will drastically go down.

Purging obvious spam accounts from click farms would also be good, there aren't just bots doing this shit. There are actual people being paid cents in india to press buttons on 100 iphones.

It is reasonable. However he’s only saying this because there have been dozens of popular shitposters changing their display name to Elon Musk (their different Twitter handle makes it obvious it is not him, of course) - successfully taking the piss out of him ever since he took over. Examples.





Those are clearly parodies - a first amendment protected right, which musk has banned because free speech he’s still getting owned despite paying 44 billion to look cool.


However, his first action of removing verification, and selling a badge / subscription for $8 instead means impersonation will now happen all the time maliciously to news sources, with troll accounts set up to have a lookalike handle, with a blue tick. This will be far beyond what any moderation could hope to keep up with, especially since he’s fired most of the moderators.

It's more like everyone is deboosted unless they go for Twitter Blue.

Most people to the right of Mao already deal with that (where your replies are only seen if someone clicks "show more replies" or whatever), so the change would make things more equal, which for those that enjoyed the more privileged status on Twitter feels like a step down. There are also the issues with people being banned from search so that they get massively less engagement, which if Twitter Blue just undoes that then it changes things quite a bit on Twitter.

The only way this could be a problem for anyone is that they'd possibly be dealing with the same deboosting that average people have already lived with. Skimmed the video but the guy mentioning how the Unverified would have their replies towards the bottom kinda hints this is his main problem with the possible system, since it'd be a bit like people paying to not be shadowbanned the way a lot of Bluechecks like wrongthinkers to be.

There's honestly a fairly simple fix for this, adding text underneath the person's handle saying they are genuinely with the news organization or are the celebrity. It'd be similar to when they mark accounts as affiliated with a government.

Given one of his major annoyances with bots was seeing a bunch of them pretending to be him to do crypto scams, he's probably not going to make it easier to impersonate anyone.
