Decided I wanted to make a discussion thread regarding the various MMO's (Massively Musket Online) that are out right now. They seem to have become a pretty popular niche in the gaming world right now. Here's a few of the heavy hitters right now:

Mount and Blade: Napoleonic Wars
There are multiple musket based Mount and Blade mods out there, but this one was a paid multiplayer DLC. Absolute blast back in the day but doesn't have the community it once had. My personal favorite and still sad everyone moved on.

Holdfast: Nations at War
First game to follow up on the concept. Has been in early access for almost 4 years now and the devs would rather add a WW1 expansion instead of fixing all the broken shit like the attrocious melee and hilariously jank cavalry

War of Rights
Haven't played this one but from what I can tell it's a more serious American Civil War shooter that runs on cryengine.

Battle Cry of Freedom
Recently released Civil War shooter made by the original creators of M&B:NW. Really rough right now but I think is more fun than holdfast.

Not strictly a gun game, but related to Napoleonic Wars is the Rising Sun: Bakumatsu mod for MB Warband. Its based on the Gekokujo samurai mod but brings it to the Boshin Japanese civil war of the late 1860s. Lots of euro and american firearms, its great fun

I don't game, but I've shot plenty of black powder firearms. I know it is possible, but to take good aim, fire, reload, and take good aim and fire again in 20 seconds is god tier level that most people will never reach even with civil war era "cartridges." You'd do better to figure at least a minute of reload time as balls are flying towards your head from the opposition.

Uh no you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Here's a historic training video to prove it:

Ahh Mod db where mods go to be updated twice then die forever. Or alternatively the creator has a discord with 10 people and still insists he's 'working on it' over a decade later without updates

I was really enjoying that until that 'just spit and tap it'. Sure man, sure.

I don't know enough about this kind've fighting to really know but I was under the impression it wasn't really about individual aim but more volume of fire. So they were drilled to reload as quickly as possible, ready, volley fire, and repeat. Is that an incorrect view of how it went? I'm genuinely asking.

Lol, short answer, yes, it was volume of fire that was important. Sperg answer: that was a smoothbore musket firing a 3/4 inch diameter lead ball with no rear sight - they were doing good to hit a 4’ x 4’ square (man size) at 100 yards. Strategy was to trade fire at 100-300 yards and hopefully “break up” the enemy formation then charge/press the enemy off the battlefield. (Too much civil war history/reenacting on my part)
