We've had a multimedia thread on the MLP Movie before, and with season eight on it's way (unless you already went through the leaks), I'm curious to see how this will go.

A synopsis is unnecessary, even those who never cared for the show probably have an idea of it after hearing it around for the last seven years.

Thread is for general MLP; show, comics, fanwork, whatever.

So discuss, faggots. Do you love it? Hate it? Don't care anymore? What's kept you sticking around? What made you stop watching? Which horse are you most likely to fuck?

In order to keep up with the memes, I followed along until Season... Four, Five? I think it was the one that ends with Mane 6 confronting that red centaur looking villain. I suppose one day I will get all caught up and have a look at the full length film too. I heard it sucked after the point where I stopped following along because they reformed and elevated Starlight Glimmer into replacing the Mane 6 or something.

I'm not sure what the EQG was all about, I vaguely remember seeing the first one in a cytube stream somewhere, and apparently there's a whole bunch more to cash in on the spin off. The multicolored anthropoid figures look kind of gross.

Never really cared for the IDW comics, the art style is too off putting and ugly compared to the animation.

The halcyon glory days of season 1-3 were where it was at, when the memes were at their dankest and the episodes not suffering from the poor writing teams and stagnation. The Pony Anthology and /mlp/ thread simulator series still keep things fresh even when the show is not, and i still root for /mlp/ in the 4chan Cup.

The villain's name is Tirek and he was from gen 1 of MLP believe it or not.

This is what he looks like.

Like holy shit. He fits right in with villains from a Hanna barbie cartoon. Not an MLP show for girls!

I often forget Equestria Girls is a thing. I only saw the first movie, it was okay. The characters look cute more often in fan art than they do canonically, usually when their skin color isn't as saturated. I know that's not actual criticism about the franchise itself as much as it is what I think is cute, but I barely even remember the first movie's plot, so whatever.

I've only read a few of the comics (I never put the time in to reading more), but they're good from what I've seen. I really enjoy goofy slice of life stories such as "A Pinkie Pie Story That Pinkie Pie Kinda Sorta Remembers".

I just remember thinking he looked like a centaur with a horned baboon for the humanoid half. The finale with him in FiM was kind of dumb. In all the previous FiM finales, they were at least somewhat clever about working in some kind of lesson about friendship into the method by which the Mane 6 defeat the villain, but with Tirek, they just had this all out DBZ style hyper destructive brawl until he was dead or something.

I heard that IDW team ended up being dominated by bottom tier SJW writers and artists dredged up from the fandom, who plagiarized designs and visual assets wholesale from other MLP fan artists, so even though some of the stuff looked interesting, the whole controversy behind the scenes soured my interest in anything those guys put out.

Sometimes the humanized fan versions of the pony characters can be pretty clever and creative, but people were doing that long before the Hasbro corporate squad cooked up EQG

I don't follow its going-ons very closely outside of Horse News, but it seems that most of the smaller cons are dead and only the big ones are still taking place year after year. Hasbro already greenlighted one last season, but it'll probably be this new G5 that finally scatters the fandom, as it's purposely being designed not to appeal to the G4 fans.

As for MLP... what I have seen, I kinda liked.
The thing for me with the show is, that while it is obviously made primarily for younger kids/girls in mind, it tries to have also cartoonish humor in it that can appeal to kids and adults of both genders. At least the few well adjusted adults I know watch it with their kids from time to time without wanting to blow their brains out.
I also think some of the characters are cute, as in the designs despite being utterly simplistic are adorable. I am surprised though how fucking long this shit has been running. Like when I got into watching it, it was at season 2 and I thought this will end by season 4 or something, after they did perhaps some shout out special to older generations. Well, I was right about the shout out thing with Tirek. About it ending, not so much.
Really, the fandom is worse than anything the show could ever do or did. Except the season 3 finale, cause that was utter girly horsecrap.

I already see how G5 won't have as much autistic male fanbase as G4:
– they'll change many fundamental things, autists can't stand things changing
– the artstyle goes from that cheap Flash animation crap with giant anime eyes to a more furry and girly look
– it's a reboot, so all the fansperging of the last 8 years goes into waste
– /co/ won't fall for the same shit again, no one will watch it "ironically"

Well, we will see. I can't call something dead yet until Hasbro show it not tell it.

And no. Not all Leaks stay the same. I remember people fell for a troll who claimed that the next Paper Mario will go back to the TTYD gameplay and we all got Color Splash instead.
