That would make this whole situation reasonable. Animation takes a lot of time, especially for small productions like this. But none of what she writes in the update suggests that's the case. She would presumably have mentioned it because it is a genuinely good excuse. But the fact that she didn't and the nature of the retreat they took it to makes it most likely they're just lazy, pseudogrifters, or (most sympathetic option) they're just kinda trapped in filmmakers' block because they've come to realize Narco's true nature and the inherent difficulties of making an uplifting film about such a wretch.
Do like Tim Burton's Ed Wood: end on a high note and leave "He then died homeless in a friend's apartment" to the epilog.
It's probably not a legit grift - but they're probably hoping to be able to have a "an then Narcissa returned to speedrunning and set a whole bunch of records" ending and they're just waiting for that to happen.

There are only four ways a troon dies. Joining the 41%, murder, dying from troon complications/illness, and detransitioning. Too much of a narcissist to commit to the first, too insular and ugly for the second, and too much of a sunk cost fallacy for the fourth. He'll likely die living with his parents, or homelessness if they kick the bucket first because he'll squander that money.

What is it with trannies and pretending to have read Simulacra & Simulation? They clearly are that deluded to think the indistinguishable Simulacra is anything akin to a man with stubble in a dress and cheap makeup? The point of the book is that the real and the simulated become so similar we cannot tell the difference and thus lose touch with the real. Quite fitting for the tranny mentality, actually.
