"When people do not have to exert themselves to satisfy 4 their physical needs they often set up artificial goals for themselves. In many cases they then pursue these goals with the same energy and emotional involvement that they otherwise would have put into the search for physical necessities...

39. We use the term “surrogate activity” to designate an activity that is directed toward an artificial goal that people set up for themselves merely in order to have some goal to work toward, or let us say, merely for the sake of the “fulfillment” that they get from pursuing the goal...

41. For many if not most people, surrogate activities are less satisfying than the pursuit of real goals (that is, goals that people would want to attain even if their need for the power process were already fulfilled). One indication of this is the fact that, in many or most cases, people who are deeply involved in surrogate activities are never satisfied, never at rest. Thus the money-maker constantly strives for more and more wealth. The scientist no sooner solves one problem than he moves on to the next. The long-distance runner drives himself to run always farther and faster. Many people who pursue surrogate activities will say that they get far more fulfillment from these activities than they do from the “mundane” business of satisfying their biological needs, but that is because in our society the effort needed to satisfy the biological needs has been reduced to triviality. More importantly, in our society people do not satisfy their biological needs AUTONOMOUSLY but by functioning as parts of an immense social machine. In contrast, people generally have a great deal of autonomy in pursuing their surrogate activities."

The entire time I was re-reading this, I was thinking how much it applies to the wave of troonery. People have no goals to attain that they find meaningful anymore because they’re either no longer necessary or just seem too unattainable, so they make up problems, such as “I’m the wrong gender now”. Maybe Ted got mad and left the appointment because he had an epiphany that modern society and the mutual rejection between him and it seemed to brainwash him into thinking his identity/being was the problem, and it pissed him off that he almost fell into the trap he’s speaking of here (that being endlessly trying to solve nonexistent problems).

There is definitely a link between the dormant human, like a loner playing the same video game over and over again all day everyday and troonery.

I’ve always agreed and been fascinated with Ted since I first read his manifesto as a teen. In my opinion what he argues applies to so many of society’s problems.

Hopefully, Cosmo doesn’t take it to the point of blowing shit up. But I doubt he would since he’s too self indulgent and seems to be only interested in these arguments as a scapegoat for his fuck ups.

Ted's manifesto is incoherent and at several points borders on self-contradictory. It's very clearly the product of a damaged mind desperately grasping for reasons why it's so broken- only, unlike many other cases, Ted was smart enough to assemble a justification that didn't seem unhinged on the surface. As pointed out above, if you take him seriously, he forms a fully general argument against human sapience, and possibly against the higher functions found in mammals and birds as well.

I’m just saying in my opinion, Ted brought up good points that are worth considering. Not saying it should be taken as the whole truth. The entire topic of industrialization/technology and how it affects humanity is way too nuanced to take a good or bad stance on it like he did. Also, “incoherent”? I think that’s an exaggeration or a cheap shot based on his obviously questionable mental state. Most people are illiterate compared to Ted’s reading and writing skills. The internet is proof of that.

edit: sorry to derail. But to get back on topic, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the unhealthy amounts of technology use (abuse) we see people participating in seems to match the amount of troonery happening in current society.

Why are you speaking about the Unabomber like he's your weird friend from college, and how does this relate at all to Cosmo Wright?
Cosmo hasn't done anything recently, so it's not surprising this has devolved into the Uncle Teddy Was Right Variety Hour: Slow threads tend to end up going on tangents.

👆🏿 Look at this dude trying to act detached like he isn't part of the derail

Cosmo has been somewhat active on twitter recently, just spouting mindless dribble. He had a depressing Christmas (Shocking!) and streamed for abut 6 hours or so recetnly calling it a "Lazy Day". Apparently he has put a big "year in review" video together for, wait for it....Beatle Adventure Racing. And the video "premieres" tomorrow night at midnight.

We've been waiting all year for this exciting game

Its actually regarded as a good N64 arcade racer....

speed running isn't about how good the game is anyway, its the crazy knots you tie it in.

And with this it seems the Break The Game movie will not be released this year, who could have thought. Their lack of updates is on Kickstarter really impressive:

* September 2019: fully funded
* March 2020: animated gifs for backers!
* July 2020: self-congratulary update that Jane will be going to a Sundance workshop
* December 2020: reminder update that Jane was indeed at Sundance and everything is awesome

There hasn't been a trailer or even a single frame of this movie being shown to the public yet (EDIT: I'm retarded, there is a trailer on Facebook), just a few storyboard drawings. And pictures of the merch they produced for their backers. No "hey look here, our editing timeline in Adope Premiere!", no behind the scenes, nothing. The few people who asked on Twitter just got an evading "Excellent [progress], thanks for asking! [But please fuck off.]"

And even more amazingly, nobody cares. Not a single backer has posted anything on Kickstarter since the campaign was funded.

If you want real racing competition then try to compete in MK64. According to Summoning Salt videos the competition is cutthroat.

More twitter misery.
