Newgrounds - Moderators and Administration

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
If there's one thing I think I've learn from all this it's that the Friday Night Funkin' fanbase really needs to have a seperate thread from Newgrounds.
I've seen it blossom from a group of older Newgrounds people who like a game into an extremely autistic group of lolcows ripe with potential for endless threads. If Paula Tajiano is any evidence, these are people who have extremely thread-worthy reactions to very minor things and will stop at nothing to spit out their tranny tumblr words.
Not to mention, most of them are autistic trannies who boast about being autistic and trannies.
Kinda late but I disagree, it's the fanbase of a flavor of the month game, this is the same reason why there is no Undertale/FNAF/DDLC thread here, there is not a special kind of autism that makes it stand out from the rest of fanbases.

You're wrong about that. There are "Undertale" and "DDLC" threads here

Very interesting take on the situation, it's nice to hear a different opinion on it...
How long you recon until Funkin's popularity fades out you recon? Some friends and I were talking about it, and my money's on "by the time the game releases, nobody will care anymore".

My take is different: When the fans stop making mods orKickstarter reaches all goals.

I'm on that boat myself. Similar to Homestuck with Hiveswap, it'll take too long to get all the goals and the fandom will have moved onto something gayer by the time it's fully done.

This is the best thing to come out of Newgrounds nowadays:

Anyways, has Tom Fulp gotten into drama or done any cow-ish shit? I keep hearing vague rumors in some places but I've never been able to figure out exactly what they're talking about or if there's any proof. Came here to look for info.

newgrounds is a walking dead. you see it alive because of fnf but all I see is desperate attempts at keeping the website up.
after flash's death I think the website didn't have any purpose to live because the nostalgic value of it died. Flash was a big part of newgrounds even though there were some good music and art i used to check.

fnf gets on my nerves because my friends got into it for a while and they started to share porn of it. like, really weird shit I'm not into. I don't even get how mods get so much attention in the community but it's doing a ridiculously good job at keeping newgrounds alive.

at this point I'd just see newgrounds die within 2020 with some good memories and restored content on YouTube. half of the Flash shit I used to watch doesn't even work anymore.

They tried to rebrand as more of a porn site (more than they already were, which was a lot...) too and bring over the people who got chased off tumblr and twitter, but that seems like it won't save the site or its culture.

Don't know if these can help you find old flash shit you're looking for but here's Flashpoint and the NG flash player.

what @exhausted said but also the flash projector executable that you can download and run locally downloaded .swf files.

People have been saying some variation of this (even the flash stuff, when the shutdown was first announced a decade ago) for 80% of Newgrounds' life. As long as there are kids who can figure out how to use their 8th grade coding knowledge to make something gross or violent, it'll probably make enough on ads to support the Fulps.

AFAIK, they had to introduce the "Supporter" system so that people could subscribe and donate money, cause they weren't making enough money via the ads.
Anyway, I think their biggest problem is not the death of flash, but death of web gaming in general.

Newgrounds and sites like it were at the right place and right time for web gaming. With the death of Flash they lost a huge chunk of the library of games they used to compete against the constantly growing might of mobile gaming.

The only thing going for Newgrounds are the prominent artists from Newgrouns like the guy behind "Brain Dump" and OneyG, and it's music and art portals and porn until "Friday Night Funkin" ends

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. The decline started around 2012 way before the end-of-life of flash was announced, and IMO one of the main reasons for that was the rise of mobile gaming and emergence of easy to use free engines like Unity. It seems like a lot of devs left flash games to work on mobile and PC games.
However, now that the mobile game market is overfilled, you'd expect web games to make a comeback, but that doesn't happen. My opinion: nowadays people browse the internet mainly on mobile, so if you want to make a successful web game, you better make its screen size and controls optimized for phones, in which case... why not also make a mobile version? Especially if you're using something like Unity, which compiles for mobile with ease, AFAIK.

Went and visited NG today for old time's sake and saw something that made me a little sad on Tom Fulp's latest news post:

Delete Me.png

After all of this time on the internet as the home of creators like Oney, Egoraptor, etc. and with the resurgence of the website thanks to Tumblr banning porn in 2018 and Friday Night Funkin' being a big thing in the 2020s, how are there only roughly 6,000 people paying to use it? I've seen better supporter numbers on shitty niche podcasts's Patreon Page.

And where does Tom get off thinking he's going to double that paltry number before this year ends? What are people going to be paying for? More shitty flash games that don't even work properly now?

I know it's been hammered to death that this website is the walking dead, but I truly don't know how it can survive this decade.
