I remember when the site had those "assassination" games you could "play". Used to play that shit a lot when I was younger.

Then I grew up. And only now am I seeing that some those games are still up. They're like the epitome of edgy. And I can't help but to laugh at them

I honestly think the animutations were an early form of YouTube poops. They use a similar form of implementation that's easy to get started with.

A lot of those animutations, at least the more popular ones, are on YouTube now.

Despite being Tom's brother, he was cut from the staff when the site downsized. A couple years back someone noticed that he listed his new amazing job as a used car salesman on his twitter page and made a thread on the forums about it.

This led to him getting doxed pretty much instantly and the dealership was flooded with calls asking for Wade. He's no longer listed as an employee, though you can still find his number through the dealer's directory.

Naturally the idiot who thought it was a good idea to reveal personal information about him was a moderator, too.

Haha yeah some guy named "hamandcheeseclock" said that Rocky Dennis from Mask looked like Wade's wife. Needless to say he was the first person to ever be perma-banned from the forums. He was a flash artist, so they didn't just delete his account, cuz they wanted that hentai revenue. But they didnt even have a perma-ban feature back then :story:

Some other user named Tony-DarkGrave got banned for a year then came back. He was purposefully down-voting tons of audio portal submissions (they all sucked, he was just letting them know) and so they fucking revamped the whole system, and only let you vote on a submission once per account. Besides that, he was also an ass.

But yeah like everyone else, Newgrounds is dead. If not, it's been on a slow, agonizing death march since 2007 when Steve Jobs announced flash would not be supported on the iPhone. A lot of talented flash artists read the tea leaves and got out, which was pretty smart.

The fact it's been petering out this long both impresses, and depresses, me. Flash is pretty much on the decline and most animators are either weaning off what's left of the old Flash architecture or have moved on to Animate or ToonBoom.

Newgrounds was pretty much dead in 2005 or so, they should have just cut their losses by '07 and let it die quickly. But nah, it's been straggling along for a good decade afterward.

That's not what weening means. The original meaning was a Middle English word for "believe", and it has a second meaning here referring to screaming :julay: at Chris. "Ween" was also the name of a band. That's it.

Really? I always thought it was also a word for "Leach" or "sucking". Or am I confusing that with another adjective for the word?

There is the word "weaning", which refers to babies first eating solid food, and generally people stopping using something in the way a baby stops using its mother's m-i-l-k. Even that isn't what you meant.

Yeah Newgrounds is just obsolete at this point. I knew it would go this way ever since video streaming started becoming more and more viable.
I can't hate on it at all, though. Not just because I remember all the fun flash games and times when Egoraptor was good but because I met one of my greatest friends there who I ended up knowing IRL.

That's the word, edited the post to reflect that. Thanks.

Point still stands though- Only a few people (as far as I know) still use Flash, and most people would have moved on at this point.

I haven't used Flash in years. I stopped when YouTube changed to HTML5, which was in 2015.

What can I say, even I visited the site back in like 2000-something. It was at least ten years ago. Honestly, I wouldn't see it now as having ever been good, but it was far from the worst thing to ever exist.

Far as I know, there may as well of been other flash game and flash movie sites that were no doubt worse or at least of a lower quality than Newgrounds. Still, Newgrounds did have it's own share of flash games that were complete crap and it wouldn't be surprising if older flash games from their older years were deleted from the site.
