"No video with supported format and MIME type found." - Help an idiot figure out why videos won't play.

This might be more appropriate for Internet & Technology, but it also definitely qualifies as a stupid question.

I need to watch videos for an online course, and they won't play. In Firefox, I get the error message, "No video with supported format and MIME type found." In Brave, Chrome, and Vivaldi, the video is just a gray box. Every solution I've found online boils down to, "update your browser, clear cookies and cache, disable add-ons, reinstall your browser, try another browser," like everyone straight-up copied and pasted each other's articles. I even tried using a different computer all together, and still nothing. Youtube, Rumble, Bitchute, and all the videos here on KF play fine. It's just that one website.

I figure a forum full of autists with plenty of tech experience is my best bet right now, because I have no idea how the fuck to fix this, and tech support's only suggestion was to try Chrome. If you have an answer, please explain it like I'm an idiot child.

I feel way too young to be this much of a boomer with computers.

Are you encountering the same issues with fresh installs? If these videos are mostly on YouTube, you could download them with youtube-dl and watch them with VLC or mpv.
What are your hardware specifications? (cpu, motherboard, video card, harddrive/ssd OR laptop model)

Have you updated your hardware's drivers recently?

What operating system are you running?

Have you updated your operating system recently?

Which method are you connected to the internet? (wifi/wired)

Have you tried using automatic settings and connecting to your router using wifi?

Have you tried turning off any VPNs, DNS shields (like Raspberry PiHole), or proxy services?

If possible, install Linux onto a usb flash drive and run Linux...
I only get that when something is actively blocking the video. It's usually noscript for me. Have you tried viewing it from another network and not just a different computer? Maybe your router has some weird rule that's fucking with that site specifically.

Could be operating system/browser combo doesn't support that mimetype, you can get VLC web plugin that'll play many video formats within the browser.

May also be ad blocker/no script, might block some elements that are required for the page to render properly.

What happens when you install Firefox without any addons or configurations?

Sorry for the late reply. I guess I didn't have notifications on for this thread. Either way, I tried every browser without any add-ons or extensions, so no scripts were getting blocked. Firefox, Chrome, and Vivaldi were fresh installs.

Which VLC plugin specifically? For Firefox, I see "Open with VLC," "Open in VLC Media Player," and "Open in VLC." For Brave/Chrome, there's "Open in VLC Media Player" and "Open in VLC." I have no clue if there's any real difference between them.

If possible, install Linux onto a usb flash drive and run Linux from USB. (I chose Linux Mint because it is easy and has lots of help articles)

So, this morning, I open my laptop, refresh the page the video is on, and boom, it plays just fine. I check my email, and I had one from their tech support.

Turns out, the problem was on their end, not mine. All that frustration for nothing. Still, thanks for trying to help, everyone. I really appreciate it.
