So I'm probably going to see Zootopia tonight with my siblings. Has anyone else seen it yet? Thoughts?

I saw this and I have to say I really liked it. I'd even watch it again in theatres which I rarely do. Overall its too early to say but this might well be one of my favorite animated Disney films ever.
The racism metaphor was pretty heavy handed, but I didn't feel beaten over the head with it either. The movie could have gone full SJW, but I don't think it did. All the animals blatantly stereotype each other and it's rarely seen negatively. They don't pretend that all the animals are equal at doing everything all the time. The message is more "be what you want to be, but it might be ridiculously hard for you."
The animation was also incredible in some scenes, I'd say see it just for that alone. The city they created was really, really neat.
I loved a lot of the little things about a society of peaceful animals might theoretically look and act. For example, when Nick gets the elephant popsicle and turns it into 200 hamster popsicles. How does that work anyway? Are there like government food subsidies for larger animals, or do they just have to pay way more to eat? This movie makes you ask a lot of little autistic questions like that, but the world itself seems very rich and thought out.
One thing I really liked is that a bunch of my expectations for this movie were subverted without making it even seem like they were trying to. I was expecting an incredibly typical buddy cop film, but with animals, and pretty much went to see it because I thought the bunny was cute and it might be funny. Instead it was actually pretty touching and kinda deep.
One trope I expected they did a great job with was when they introduced the carrot pencorder, and I called that they were going to later do a scene where Nick gets ahold of it by accident/pickpocketing and is in the process of abandoning Judy when he has a touching change of heart and goes back to help her with whatever and then they get along from that point on. That's usually how that particular plot would be handled in a lesser movie or show, but it doesn't pan out that way at all, and Judy earns Nicks respect and loyalty very early on which I thought was great with the pen playing a couple of different roles later on instead. Very natural in subverting the expected and not making a show of it, and showing a more natural evolution of friendship.
Another thing I expected was that the entire movie would be about Judy trying to prove herself on the force and slowly win Nick over. Instead, she makes friends with Nick early on and earns the respect of the entire police force about 1/2-3/4 which only leads into the second, darker half of the film. So that was really unexpected.
I also loved, loved the ending where they say they love each other. If you haven't see the movie, it's in a best-buddy way. I like seeing platonic male/female bffs that aren't awkward. It's never really said if different species can even marry anyway but I'm sure that will be the subject of a ton of furry speculation.

Well, color me surprised, no one was really expecting too much out of this movie, and it appears to be well on it's way to being one of the most loved Disney movies of all time.

It even beat Frozen on the rating side of things.

So I saw it last night; I really enjoyed it and I have to say, it's probably one of the best Disney movies I've seen by far. The way they handled stereotyping was pretty good; they didn't beat around the bush but it wasn't too heavy handed either.
I fucking lost it at the fennec fox accomplice though. I felt so betrayed. He was so cute but he was actually a conman.

"Heheheheh, you got conned."

It's not due to be released in the UK for another two weeks. I thought the days of us getting films after America were gone, but that doesn't seem to be the case with Disney/Pixar films (Wreck-It Ralph wasn't released here until months after its US premiere). It's also called Zootropolis over here for some bizarre reason. I prefer the original title.

I am interested in seeing this but (and I know the OP said no furry sperging but hear me out), while watching I know in the back of my mind I'll be thinking the whole time: "This is considered the great furry film of our generation".

I thought it was pretty cute. The animation was gorgeous and you notice a lot of details like facial expressions in background characters that show that they put a lot of effort into individual scenes. I also liked how much thought was given to making a city of animals with so much variety in size and height work. It's your stock buddy cop comedy, but had some genuinely funny bits throughout.

The racism thing was nicely handled, I thought. Not heavy-handed enough to be preachy, but not too subtle for what is essentially a kids movie. About the only thing I felt was forced was the Shakira thing.

Apparently some other company holds the trademark for Zootopia over there, hence the name change.

I've been shocked by all of the acclaim I've been hearing Zootopia get; it honestly just seemed like a Disney filler movie when I first saw previews of it. Now I really want to see it!
