IMO best TES game. First one I ever played.

Probably not the most well polished and a generic high fantasy setting (and you get boring Ayleid ruins instead of Dwarven ones.) I love the game to pieces though. :heart-full:

Probably my favorite too. Oblivion was also my introduction to PC gaming.

What. A. Fucking. Ride.

I'd played open world games before, but nothing compared to that sense of "where do I go now?" than walking out of the sewer and realizing just how deep I was in it. Not to mention how amazing some of the quests were. Whenever I was at a friend's house he would load up the game and he'd show me around, playing some of the more interesting quests. Some of my first Oblivion memories are seeing my friend play though quests like The Forlorn Watchman, A Brotherhood Betrayed and A Brush With Death.

I'd been a gamer for years before I'd found Oblivion, but goddamn, Oblivion opened my eyes like no game has to date.

None compete with whodunit.

This is literally the highlight of the entire fucking game for me. Every time I play through the Dark Brotherhood storyline (so basically everytime I play Oblivion lol), I always set a save off to the side so I can play this mission over and over. There's just something so satisfying about it that I can replay it over and over and still get a kick out of it.

Oblivion is my favorite TES game just for how in-depth as an RPG it was without feeling too dated. Morrowind felt/feels that way for me and I hate myself that I can't get over it. I always end up playing a mage just for how overpowered spellmaking is, and then I always keep the chains that're on you at the beginning of the game and enchant them to give me bonus willpower. It's not much of a bonus, but I think it looks cool with mage robes.

The thieves guild quests were much enjoyable than Skyrim's because you were penalized for killing people in Oblivion so it actually required you to use stealth... also you steal a freakin' Elder Scroll which was sick. I also liked that they had the other guilds rather than the Companions or "Mage's College" which were all centered around one location.

This. Also the pacing of the faction quests in Skyrim felt really weird. For example, like an hour into the Companions' questline you become a member of their inner circle. Oblivion doesn't have that problem at all.

Pretty much my thoughts on it. It took you a while before you could get in good with the Fighter's Guild, and god knows it takes a damn long while to get into the Mage's Guild, though after you're in the pace picks up quick.

What was your first reaction to being told that? I think a 13 year-old me nearly shit himself when he was told he was stealing the game's namesake.

There was so much variety between all of the various guilds and shit in Oblivion. Every guild had their own little cast of fun characters and relationships, plus it encouraged you to go to all the towns more because of different quests and shit requiring you to check in at this or that guild. The College of Winterhold was neat, but oh my lord the town it was in was just so underwhelming entirely. As for the Companions, I dunno, I honestly get sick of Whiterun really quickly and the only reason I play the questline is for silver swords, because they look fucking dope.

On the topic of dope-looking weapons, I'll just leave this here.

So I've actually been working a new a worldspace for Oblivion off and on for awhile. It's not a secret that I love Nordic stuff, and like back before my computer could properly run Skyrim I was messing around with the resources from the defunct "Skyrim for Oblivion" project and made this small archipelago that was kind of supposed to be like Solstheim (if it was more than one island and mixed with Bob Ross paintings). It's not much, like there's only a handful of NPCs and no quests. It was mainly just kind of a thing for me to wander around in when I was feeling depressed or whatever. Though I've been adding little features to it that other people might like (e.g I put Andragorn's thorgier set in as Nordic Silver Weapons, and the blacksmith in one of the towns crafts them for you if you bring him silver nuggets) and I've been considering releasing it, but I need to figure out how to do some stuff like making non-imperial guards (currently the 'guards' are just aggressive nords who beat you to death with axes if you commit crimes).

You want some help building environments? I used to make house mods in my spare time for Morrowind

Nah, I've got that part down, most of my problems involve managing NPCs. As of right now the NPCs just kind of stand around or sandbox like they did in Morrowind. Like I said this was kind of a personal project and that kind of thing doesn't really bother me, but I know it would bug a lot of people if I released it like that.

Fine Steel is just about my favorite weapon set in the game, to the point where one of the first things I'll do in a playthrough is get to Bruma, and steal the Fine Steel Mace that I know one of the houses has. For me Fine Steel is second only to maybe Madness weapons from Shivering Isles.

I gotta say though, in terms of unique weapons, the Mace of Molag Bal is fucking beautiful.

Honestly gameplay wise I absolutely love oblivion more than skyrim. There's just so much more depth to everything in the game, all the quests are more complex and thought out, all the awesome different skills you can use (most of which got killed off in skyrim) and God damn did I love going into the oblivion gates and literally fighting my way through hell. But that being said skyrim is a way more gorgeous game, I just love the whole Norse Viking thing it has going on and all the locations are absolutely beautiful to the point where I actually kinda wished I could visit a few IRL. And I also like that the characters don't look like baby faced abominations like they do In oblivion.

Considering you and Exball are talking about weapons, what about some armor? Shivering Isles had some dabes light armor:

I love me Oblivion. I knew practically nothing about TES before I bought it on a whim for the 360 back in 2006, and my God, I became hooked. I'm proud to say that I completed every side quest in Oblivion and shut all the gates.

I'm even replaying Oblivion right now, but on PC this time.

I could never really get into Morrowind (although I own it on Steam) and Skyrim was cool, but it just didn't capture me the way Oblivion did.

So I was thinking about Oblivion today and realized I have spent around $200 on it. I think that might mean it is one of my favorite games ever. I have spent more money on Oblivion than I have on the entire fallout series and I don't regret it.
