diesel mechanic on large boats.
easy to get that job, pays like shit at first, but quickly gets better.

In order of prestige/pay:
Engineer (Ph.D.)
Engineer (M.S. and lower)
Engineering Technician
Low-voltage Tech (radio, networks, telecom, etc.)
Mechanic
Journeyman (Electrician, plumber, general contractor, etc.)
Traditional crafts (cobbler, tailor, etc.)
Assembly line worker

That’s about all the major categories I can think of for ‘guys who build shit’. They can roughly all make the same if they can build successful businesses on their own except for the lowly factory worker who will slave away until he cashes in his social security or (more likely) become disabled after a workplace injury.
