i love democracy when my guy wins the election, otherwise votes are literally thrown in the trash and they make up whatever number they want within margins that won't make the public go "that's literally impossible"

A democratic country becomes corrupt again? "Can't be because of democracy!"
A democratic country starts oppressing everyone who doesn't support it? "That wasn't real democracy"
All the politicians in a democratic country get bought by lobbyists,other capitalists and foreign investors? "In MY democracy it will totally be different"

That's why I stopped taking the opinions of most democracy defenders seriously.

A lot of great leaders have been elected, leaders that weren't a face for an unknown oligarchy. A lot of problems come from parliamentary systems with "prime ministers" acting as heads of state. Making "back room" dealings more important than dealing with the crowd. That might be why Europe is in more shit than America politically. The EU sucks, not because it is democratic, exactly the opposite. That problem is solved by presidents being elected by the people. In America the biggest systemic problem with the president is the 22nd amendment. This hampers a single, yet broad, and popular vision from being enacted. The amendment is from 1951, so it's pretty new as amendments go. Super delegates in the democrat party should go away too. That would make the party more democratic, and that would solve the a lot of the party's problems.

I understand democracy's flaws, but industrial society is necessary for a modern state to exist. To be competitive in modern warfare you have to have industry, to have industry you have to have happy workers. If workers aren't happy then they at best don't work, at worst they destroy factories. You also have to have people willing to die to keep the country going. Like Stalin said, "quantity as a quality all it's own" you'll never have warfare where having millions of loyal soldiers isn't a major benefit. A great way to know what to do to make someone happy is to ask them. However, you don't want to live in a society were two wolves and one sheep vote on what's for dinner. Those societies self-cannibalize and fall apart, or are invaded from without or within. That's what all the rules are for. Trying to maximize the good, and minimize the bad.

I'd say the major problem with western world is private banking practices, not democracy per se.
