i have always wondered if this means that anybody could have CoC if they wanted to but they just need to know and accept themselves.
Everything thus far makes me think it's at least a combination of factors:
-you need to have a dream or goal [something you want to do and are, at least on some level, willing to die for]
-you need to have the will to fight for it [the main reason why most people don't have it to begin with]
-you need to have a clear sense of self [which is harder to understand/explain clearly... but it obviously means 'who I am without titles' on some level; the guys up top so far hide behind shit like 'I'm a Celestial Dragon', 'I'm a God's Knight', 'I'm a Gorousei' whereas our heroes are, at most, 'the Straw Hat Pirates' before anything else]. I definitely want the big explanation of the logic here.

Also, after the reveal that the Gomu-Gomu no Mi is just a name for something else, just because it's called "Conqueror" it doesn't mean it really belongs to rulers after all.

I would generally say that it is named Conqueror's because the people who unlock it have the attitude of someone who could conquer things, like sure Luffy spends most of his time as a goober but when Luffy is serious he can enter a room and immediately take control of it.

Like consider Perospero who is technically "The second in charge" as oldest of the pirates..but he does not control a room like Katakuri can.

That and the most basic application of the ability conquers enemies so thoroughly that they pass out.

I regret clicking on that link.

obviously this wont happen but if a straw hat had to die either to help the rest of the crew escape from elbaf or because blackbeard shows up and absolutely destroys them who would it be and would they be replaced by somebody if so who?

for me i think i could honestly see brook dying and being replaced by gunko/shuri and maybe jinbei since he did give some of his life span to big mom.

He didn't. You cannot use the Soru Soru on someone not afraid of you.
It was such a hype moment, too. “My captain will be the Pirate King, why would I fear a mere Emperor?” The Straw Hats having unwavering faith in Luffy fulfilling his dream goal in the path to his real dream is always great and I wish it occurred more often. Were One Piece not serialized, I would have liked to see comparison to Ace’s faith in Whitebeard.

And it makes sense too. Lacking in fear of LIFE means you can't have it taken from you. Imagine if the Soru Soru no Mi had no weakness.

To be fair this describes most Devil Fruits in general. It’s clear a major element to Big Mom’s efficacy regarding her Devil Fruit is tied to the fact she is intimidating all on her own; it’s also a nice bit of subtle characterization on part of Mother Caramel that she was also as effective with the fruit.

Yeah but if she could erase lifespan from people who are as strong or stronger, she could kill ALL her rivals with a single attack. Few fruits guarantee death like that.

I assume that Carmel scared children who couldn't be sold in order to kill them and told the other kids they were adopted.
