I know exactly the smell, and I also can't explain. Everything about the person start to smell horrible, their sweat, breath, skin. Even their clothes are drenched in a sickly sweet fermented smell, even after you wash and dry them. It's a bizarre, terrible way to go and watching Blade diving headfirst into it is sad, even if the guy is a piece of shit.
 
Blade is not there yet, it's a slow process, my uncle was a fuctional alcoholic all his adult life, until one day he didn't go to work and just stayed in his house drinking for 3 years straight looking worse every day until the end. I was around 15 and it was the first time I saw someone "give up" ,he simply didn't want to do anything besides getting drunk and wait for his death. Most than his body it was his head what really changed.

That is assuming they can keep it together long enough from succumbing to confounding events. Those that I have known were taken out by accidents or suicide. Not good.
