To be fair to Marcan, it is bizarre that that ever got into the kernel in the first place. The kernel behaving differently depending on the name of a process is a terrible idea.
Same mentality as with Rust, I think - they see something horrendously complicated and convince themselves they could do a better job. When in actual fact, some things are inherently horrendously complicated (even if they could be improved).
I wish someone would do an X12, but nobody seems interested.

If Wayland doesn't work with the drivers of the largest and most popular GPU manufacturer, that seems to me like a Wayland problem, not an Nvidia problem.
