Would you pay for a Premium™ Wayland compositor? You can now! (archive) Some might so they don't have to interact with its d*scord, maybe.

before leaving to shackle idiots to his own monopoly
GayBen left Microshit in 1996. Steam didn't open to third-party titles until 2005, didn't open API access up for their DRM and community features until 2008, didn't properly open up to indie devs until Greenlight launched in 2012, and didn't become THE way to buy every PC game ever until like 2015, and even then, they only constituted <20% of global PC game sales at least into 2017. 20 years is a DAMN long con to play for a man intending to "shackle idiots to his own monopoly".

In far fewer words, turn off the computer and take your meds.

It's reasonable to ask for donations and offer paid services, but I really wonder what's coming down the road that they think they can paywall. Why not announce the premium features?

Supposedly it's premium dotfiles? Idk

HyprPozzed, im so glad i got out of the tiling window manager phase after realizing just how terrible they are for actual daily use thats not opening a web browser or a terminal.

Yes, your paying 5 dollars a month to get faster support and dotfiles.
Why not announce the premium features?
Because they couldnt come up with anything.

i cannot come up with something a desktop environment could paywall outside those listed.

i3wm chads stay existing completely unaffected by anything. Enjoying our feature complete and stable software. Perhaps we'll get a release in 2025, maybe not, it doesn't matter because it's already perfect.

Gaps completely unneeded, totally silly. Don't even set a wallpaper, pointless when you'll be utilizing all your pixels. Turns off the title bars, all you need is 1 pixel. Anything more is WASTED PIXELS.

Code:
default_border pixel 1
default_floating_border normal
focus_follows_mouse no
hide_edge_borders smart

But I do use i3status-rust because it has more stuffs https://github.com/greshake/i3status-rust

I don't understand people that use them.
Xfce or Cinnamon is really all you need.

I'm waiting until standard Hyprland comes with 30 second unskippable ads on startup and you need to pay for Hyprland Premium to get rid of them.

Total Red Hat/freedesktop death.
You can escape the worst of it easy enough (systemd and wayland) but good luck trying to get away from dbus, Even the BSD's use it.
Every time I want to read the dbus documentation to figure out what the fuck it is or does feels like being at a cult's seminar. Before you can actually read about how it works you first need to read about how it enables in-machine inter process communication and desktop environment session management and then if you say "yeah that sounds good" they tell you how you need to sell all your possessions to the cult to reach those things. But I guess if they had well-written documentation they couldn't charge you for support.

I decided to check out the documentation to see how bad it really was, and I found this gem

Dbus said:
INT64
x (120)
Signed (two's complement) 64-bit integer (mnemonic: x and t are the first characters in "sixty" not already used for something more common)

:story: This is the friendly design freedesktop is known for folks.

Premium™ Wayland compositor
gross.
in-machine inter process communication
The amiga already had this, with the difference that it worked well there, was stable, supported by everything of note and easy to script with.

It's funny, in a sad way, that the linux desktop experience (tm) kinda hasn't gone anywhere in ~20 years at this point. One step forward, two steps back. Can it really be that hard? If you base software on politics and directives from corporate and not merit, I guess it can.

Meanwhile I've used ratpoison until recently, which didn't have a proper update in 7 years. Worked fine for me, I just got a different screen and decided to go back to stacking for a while. I went back to fvwm because I'm insane.

Anyone have any experience with XY Tech / 51nb boards? Having an X200 with modern specs seems too good to be true (+ they come with a disabled IME through some hardware modding to pull it into "manufacturing mode"). The old page seems defunct as of 2022, though it looks like they've moved shop to a forum of the same name. Any of you lads happen to speak Mandarin?
