Diseased Open Source Software Community - it's about ethics in Code of Conducts

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Friendly reminder to keep general technical discussion to the Technology board. This thread is about non-purely-technical happenings in the OSS community (or larger tech industry). General opinions about programming languages or your favorite display manager are not on-topic. I don't want the tech chatter to flood out interesting happenings.

Void is a nigger distro for making mixed cased package names. "Oh it's what the upstream named it" I don't care and I don't want to have to query for both foo and Foo to find a thing and you also get problems like thunar where it was uppercase but is now lower. Except in Void's case of course where it's still uppercase and a bunch of libs are lowercase. Red Hat also does this. Red Hat is also very gay and extremely retarded.

Code:
user@voidvm ~/> xbps-query -Rs thunar
[-] Thunar-4.18.10_1 Thunar File Manager
[-] Thunar-devel-4.18.10_1 Thunar File Manager - development files
[-] thunar-archive-plugin-0.5.2_1 Create and extract archives in Thunar
[-] thunar-media-tags-plugin-0.4.0_1 Adds special features for media files to the Thunar ...
[-] thunar-volman-4.18.0_1 Thunar Volume Manager

Has the recent shitshow in the GNOME foundation been mentioned this thread? A huge contributor to GNOME and a member to their Board Of Directors was banned from the GNOME foundation 2 months ago has only been informed about within the last week. The reason? A CODE OF CONDUCT VIOLATION. Sonny Piers is now verboten to speak about by janny dictact. They banned their only Manjaro GNOME maintainer for such counter-revolutionary talk just recently too lol (talking about that CHUD Lunduke.) I found this thread on rdrama.net. GNOME team members are now openly infighting on their forums about it. CODE OF CONDUCT COMPLAINTS NEVER HAVE A PUBLIC EXPLANATION TO PROTECT ALL PARTIES INVOLVED CHUDDY.
Updates to the GNOME Foundation Board of Directors Roster - forum seethe
The GNOME Foundation Board voted to remove Sonny Piers as a member of the Board of Directors for cause, at a Special Meeting on May 17th, 2024, following the procedure outlined in the GNOME Bylaws, and remove him from all committees. Effective May 25th, 2024, his seat is now vacant, and in accordance with the Bylaws will be filled for the remainder of its term by an appointment made by the Board.A Code of Conduct complaint was also made against Sonny Piers. The Foundation is engaged in a mediation process with him, which is still ongoing and so we are unable to share more information at this time.
---
I'm not happy with the lack of communication and transparency from the Board to the wider community, as well as the poor execution for creating an account and posting something completely vague and uninformative. The majority of us are still completely unaware of the internal affairs and conflicts between the Board and Sonny Piers. We don't even know why he was removed, let alone what happened... Code of Conduct complaints are usually not made public at all (for good reason), so I find it even more suspicious that the Code of Conduct complaint against Sonny Piers was made public. In my opinion, mentioning the Code of Conduct complaint was only used to justify removing him, so that the community would support the decision; not to use it as a learning process and enforce the Code of Conduct, i.e. it was done in bad faith.

EBUSSY REPLIES - Emmanuele Bassi - Geek, husband, lover, software developer, Londoner. Not necessarily in that order. - He/him. - DIRECTOR OF THE BOARD

Hari, I hope you realise[sic] that code of conduct violations never have a public explanation in order to protect all the parties involved—both as a privacy aspect and as a liability one. You will never receive an explanation, unless you are one of the parties involved. Any other reading of this is, at best, naive, and at worst conspiratorial.
The Director of the GNOME Foundation comments on the SITUATION. Robert McQueen writes: Archived
This has also been an unprecedented situation for the Foundation. The Directors have met 15-16 times this year so far already and directed a great deal of time and attention into making this decision and trying to find the least worst outcomes, considering our legal and moral obligations to the community, the staff, and the Foundation — obligations which have sometimes felt in tension....We took outside legal advice on the situation and the process at multiple points, and it was duly followed. For the purposes of limiting legal liability, that advice also included making the announcement very terse and factual. I appreciate this is at tension with the transparency that the community would hope to see, but Directors are also obligated to look after the Foundation's legal requirements and financial interests.
Legal advice? Unless there's impending lawfare we might never know what the fuck this was all about until Sonny Piers spills the beans. He's refused to comment on his own blog however.
Retrospective as GNOME director - OOF

Ebussy flexes his janny muscles and sweeps up the thread and closes any further replies. Splits the thread into a new one to school the neo-nazis in open source software.
Okay, since we’re seeing this topic brigaded by a bunch of new accounts that have nothing better to do than being edgelords on the Internet, I’m activating slow mode.

One simple lifehack to get banned from GNOME's Discourse The oldest snapshot of this thread still shows the original comment that has since been flagged BY THE COMMUNITY AND TEMPORARILY HIDDEN Newer archive of thread.
The maintainer of manjaro gnome (which isn’t exactly small) even had his account banned just for posting in this thread.
He was banned as far as I can tell for sharing an article from Bryan Lunduke (which is as usual, unnecessarily inflammatory). I think a removal is entirely fair and warranted - I do not have enough information about this person to know if a ban was as I don’t have more information than that. I’m not aware of other posts.

That said, I don’t want to stray away this thread. Feel free to contact me on another platform if you’d like to continue this discussion.

GNOME Ousts Elected Board Member in Secret... and Tells Nobody for 2 Months

The GNOME Chaos Timeline

There's so much going on within GNOME... it can be hard to keep it all straight.
Here is a timeline, covering roughly the last year, of some of the key events discussed within this article (along with some of the other events relating to the GNOME Foundation).
GNOME bans Manjaro Core Team Member for uttering "Lunduke"
"Today, I dared sharing your article on the GNOME Discourse forum in the Updates to the GNOME Foundation Board of Directors Roster topic. It didn't take long before my reply was flagged as spam and hidden. My account was also deleted with no communication whatsoever. I was able to take screenshots before my account was deleted.

A fellow Manjaro forum user told me he messaged the GNOME Discourse Moderators and 'questioned the wisdom of banning the Manjaro GNOME maintainer from their forums.'"

Holy neckbeard. Fuck these people. GNOME sucks but I'm sick of CoC niggers dictating what developers can do. I got into software because it was fun and I found a good community of people to help me learn. Now its just CoC niggers dictating shit and shitting all over every project. I dont contribute to any project with a CoC so I really dont contribute anymore.

This tranny shit is gonna be the downfall of open source. At least Microsoft and Apple get pulled back from the brink if it starts affecting profits.

GPL+Nigger will save us.
Corpos like kikerosoft and apple are composed of trannies reigned in by shareholders. FOSS projects are staffed by trannies unchained. This is why the former flourish and the latter languish.

DEI should be labeled as corporate sabotage lingo, under the table passion-investors/project leaders already do, a lot of them ditch projects as soon they see Europeans or East Asians leaving because it means fake degree Indians, boss-women and niggers are coming. Only reason big companies have survived this (so far) is because they can afford both having the smart ones around and to keep retards doing busy work and hide it from HR departments, smaller/medium companies do not have this luxury and will go down with this retardation.

Also, "legacy"/branding has keept a lot of these companies afloat by just not changing anything or to keep the old stuff around, but that will collapse soon as well. Things might be very streamlined and work for now, but when things changes just enough, you need someone competent... and DEI has eliminated every single potential person to fill this void.

I have a feeling that FOSS projects have been under corporate sabotage due to them being a potential threat for big software companies (think Adobe suite and Microsoft 365).

A C or assembly microkernel that implements a Python bytecode interpreter for higher level functions would actually make a hell of an experimental OS
Can't someone make a linux kernel module for interpreting python bytecode?

I was on LowendBox and saw an IPv6 service being advertised with the COOLER license. You should read the whole thing. It's a trip.

https://blog.ipv6.rs/cool-and-cooler-open-source-licensing-suite/

Many existing licenses are not only connected to, but actually promote and market organizations or brands we do not wish to affiliate with. For instance:

  • MIT License - A deeply political organization that maintained ties with Jeffery Epstein and his colleagues for at least 15 years by their own admission.
  • Apache License - While the web server (among many other things) with the same name are great software, the organization is named after a Native American tribe, which we find highly inappropriate.
  • GPL License - Linked to Richard Stallman who worked at MIT with quite a few underaged persons and also publicly defended Jeffery Epstein's actions as it related to inappropriate activities with these underaged persons.
  • BSD - Besides the fact that the Unabomber came from there, current Professor John Yoo wrote the torture memos for George W. Bush and, if that wasn't already enough, they were deeply embroiled in a pay-to-play college admissions scandal which, although only uncovered recently, was likely going on since the beginning.
The guy behind this sounds like a lolcow or a snake.

Is it feasible to make a fork, declare it as exclusively nontranny and nonmarxist. Considering all the people kicked there should be plenty of recruiting ground for new members?

Ripping off ideas from the proprietary space is pretty common in open source. Aping their political shit as well is retarded, however. DEI and hiring useless trannies is only alive and well because of (for now) low interest rates that Big Tech businesses get to enjoy in the West. You can already see small glimpses of what's going to happen when the belt tightening begins, where entire divisions are being laid off after another rate hike. In case of F/OSS cancer circles, Ebussy and Co., they are always starved for money anyway. Hopefully, once the well truly dries up, we'll get some survival of the fittest shit in this sektur.

You can't make this shit up. These are the two most permissive licenses. MIT is literally "do what the fuck you want but credit us" in a more appropriate language, BSD depending on the version is the same with the most restrictive extra option being "but don't put our name on advertisements".

And the wheezing about Apache Software Foundation name is just cherrypicking, that person has a total zero sensible arguments. And Unabomber? He was an anti-capitalist anti-corporation person, what does the woke crowd have against him?
