Anarkiddies on Reddit are looking to OWN THE TANKIES by panhandling their weed money to buy the domain to spite them as "praxis" lmao

Honestly, quite a few things would be better if there was less "work" done, this world doesn't need code of conduct slapped onto any software project, ever, let alone on so many of them. Community managers are unnecessary as well, just intentionally use a old(=ugly) and pragmatic means of communication like a mailing list and the retards will filter themselves out. If something works and it works well it doesn't need to be rewritten in the newest fotm framework or language.

100% accurate. My usual first move with most open source projects (when I'm modifying, anyhow) is to DELETE DELETE DELETE. I measure progress in negative lines of code. Most of today's projects are so bloated I have no idea how people use them for anything. More people need to do this.

The FOSS Git repository hosting service Codeberg has a problem with spam from a user named "truth" making issues with the title "NIGGER BALLS" (based?) with message text that would mention hundreds or even thousands of users at a time (archive of an issue reporting it). At the time Codeberg posted a pretty normal response that they are aware of the issue on Mastodon.

After the dust settled the "Codeberg public relations team" then publishes a blog post related to it that decries the hecking chuds in open source that write "NIGGER BALLS" to intimidate marginalized folx, and posted about it on Mastodon to pat themselves on the ass cheek for making such a grand statement to save the honor of Free software. Truly brave.

There was a dumb project I worked on in the 90s as a teen. It was a little Delphi program to download pictures from thumbnail gallery image sites. I never got it to work acceptably after a couple dozen hours of hacking. Gave up on it. Wasn't that interested in archiving all those images, and I could do by hand anything I wanted anyhow.

15 years later, bored, learning the Linux commandline, I implemented the same functionality to download full videos from video sites in an hour or two of hacking around in a shell.

My hypothesis is that most folks tend towards overcomplication because they simply don't know how better to design things such that they're not creating a massive maintenance headache for themselves.

I really fucking hate these codes of conduct. They're useless and a waste of time. If I see a code of conduct on a project I will likely not use it.
