I disagree. If your project isn't quite well-known in the first place, building your software on GitHub is a good way to get more people into contributing (though that also gets jeets and trannies who would push a CoC into your project).
of course github is nice if you want a bunch of people to see your shit or whatever
same reason people post videos on youtube, you want that audience of 10 quadrillion pajeets to give you big number i guess

there are still a million reasons why github is horrible for free software (archive), not just "reee microsoft bad" (but still, at the end of the day: reee microsoft bad, fuck microsoft)
also haha:
Removed sr.ht, as it’s accrued a reputation as brittle and very hard to self-host. It’s probably not the right thing to recommend to people looking for a GitHub alternative, at least at this stage.
jew devault gay fake minimalist software that can't run except on 1 very specific computer (another drew FAIL)

i still find something mildly gay about this project, aimed against red hat's embrace-extend-extinguish bullshit, being hosted on a proprietary central service owned by one of the greatest eee companies of all time
perhaps they can host their shit on their own domain (freedesktop does it iirc, and so do many random schizophrenics who hate github)

the only people who choose github first to develop free software in 2025 are either pajeets or really out of touch
Yes. The excuses people come up with for using Github are sad to see. Microsoft is an evil company fully run by jeets and funded by the kikes at firms like Blackrock. The only reason they are not intentionally ruining it is because most important projects would move elsewhere immediately, just look at the freenode/liberachat situation.

Luckily Github is unintentionally destroying itself by letting jeets touch their systems: https://archive.is/KFEUj

Why is GitHub UI getting so much slower?

I couldn't help but notice - GitHub UI has been getting slower and slower recently. Some things that were snappy before are hellishly slow nowadays. GitHub is doing something weird and I just can't wrap my head around what's going on there.

You guys developing at GitHub, you're using GitHub to develop it, right? Do you not see this? What's going on?
Fast forward a few years and it will be even worse.

why do so many people have such strong stockholm syndrome for this dreadful jeet hive

hell look at sourceforge, another proprietary centralized software forge that everybody used before they completely shat everything up and triggered a mass migration
people then switched to this nice convenient new git service called github and oh look here we are again
now people are switching to this nice convenient new git service called gitlab, and some people with basic pattern recognition don't like this because they have their suspicions as for how gitlab will end up in the future
Luckily Github is unintentionally destroying itself by letting jeets touch their systems
unfortunately most of these "open source" niggers will just buy even more expensive macbooks to handle the jeetware and they won't notice on their fancy german gigabit giber lines
so they can write new heccin rust crates and accumulate stars with their flashy readme.md with the fucking rocket emojis
and make "awesome <insert topic here>" repos with links to 50 other cancerous github repositories because they can't figure out html

hopefully in the meantime, white people will be moving to self-hosting or gnu savannah or codeberg or whatever the fuck
remember to put original link because i have to click through a proprietary captcha to see these (note: (:_()

The no-JS solution has been a "work in progress" for how long now?
After reading up on it a little I think I may switch to it at some point in the future, I've felt that forgejo is too bloated for some time, had planned to use gitweb, but this seems better.
But otherwise I agree, hosting stuff on github is stupid, and any free project that does not see the retardation of hosting their shit on M$ infrastracture cannot be alright in the head.

how gitlab will end up in the future
Last time I looked them up when browsing around for forges, their front page was just a big advertisement for some copilot clone they have, I do not have much hope.

gnu savannah
While looking into cgit, I think I saw that that's what source forge used, and thus what savane is using now, probably.

Has anyone had experience with Gerrit?
I hear that it's supposed to be less of a horrible mess than github.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned gitea. I've been using it for years. It's stable and has pretty much any feature you'd need. IIRC forgejo is actually a fork of gitea

Yes, forked after gitea went corpo and tried to monetize iirc.

It seems like the AI crawlers learned how to solve the Anubis challenges
Don't you just need a non-browser useragent to bypass it anyways? Wait, why am I retarded and didn't just change my useragent ages ago. brb

Edit: Completely bypassed it just by changing my useragent lol.

That's what I do as well. Browser addon and Googlebot/Curl headers.

The Anubis garbage is revealed to be garbage, and yet it'll have supporters until the end. Idiots.

Someone should make a fork of Anubis that replaces the tranime with images of JK. Rowling.
It doesn't even need to be used by anyone, the seethe will be generated regardless.

Anubis is an interesting project; its author actively used AI to generate illustrations (a) for his blog, and only decided to remove (a) them after being called out on it by a random comment (a, scroll down to see the highlighted comment) (it's a wall of text, i'm referring to the last paragraph). I'm also pretty sure I saw someone allege that he used AI to generate code for Anubis, which is amusing. Alas, I can't find that.

Regarding the anime picture: Anubis is published under MIT, but their funding page (a) politely asks you not to remove the mascot for local deployment. Instead, they ask you to contact them and arrange a white-label solution:
Anubis is provided to the public for free in order to help advance the common good. In return, we ask (but not demand, these are words on the internet, not word of law) that you not remove the Anubis character from your deployment.

If you want to run an unbranded or white-label version of Anubis, please contact Xe to arrange a contract. This is not meant to be "contact us" pricing, I am still evaluating the market for this solution and figuring out what makes sense.
This led to some slapfights over on HN (a) and Lobsters (a) over whether replacing some assets in MIT-licensed code is actually unethical and breaking "social contract". Cuck licenses strike again.

Isn't Anubis based on the program that KiwiFlare uses/is forked from? Or am I misremembering?

I hate that so much good software is in the hands of the mentally unwell. Francis Rowe, for one, has been posting these schizophrenic comics all over his mastodon for the past three weeks instead of working on the "many, many boards" he wants to add for the next port of libreboot.

GOD how I wish someone sane was helming this project. Sadly there is no one else that clears out the IME nearly as well, nor as easily (in the sense that it is all packaged within a few commands). Sure you can do bios dumps and me_clean by hand, but that is actual, pure cancer, and pretty much impossible if you don't know C, BIOS modding and or coreboot porting.
> inb4 proprietary blobs
Unless you're running a machine from 2006, you're gonna have to live with some blobs. Having rumps or a boot loop locked ME with no network stack is still leaps and bounds better than the alternative. Perfect is the enemy of good, and splitting hairs on this topic is just as retarded as Francis's comics.

Wow, he's complaining about not-zees, but he is himself a not-zee when it comes to grammar :smug:
Also, the thumbnail still attaches the full size image, just click on the image in the post.

"Hey xirs, do you mind if I change the mascot to my catgirl Luna for my gossip forum?"

It's kinda scary what kind of pictures pop up when you duckduckgo "joshua conner moon". Those freaks really love to gender-bend Null.

Holy graphomania, Batman.

Reminds me of the schizo comics Robert Crumb's brother Charles drew before they turned into completely unintelligible squiggles.
