If you are in the terabyte range and below, and are schizo enough to use RFC 1149 or similiar, just transfer the data over sneaker net. No need to overcomplicate it.
If you can bare low bandwidth and value low ping meet in a pub instead.

While true, that is why you need a distribution network... the way things used to be done... except with pigeons. A pigeon with 2 - 4 TBs on his back could certainly get the job done. It's just a matter of what you want to carry. If you're going to have them carry nothing but corpo slop then yeah you'd need a whole fucking air force of them, but if not then just a few in a distribution tree can work wonders.

Unfortunately, younger people aren't keeping pigeons. Its becoming illegal in more places in the US to have them in city limits and houses don't have enough property anymore.
 

Here I made this. I really want people to watch this. I imagine I'm probably preaching to the choir with this thread at least. But I really think people should start caring about this. And by caring. I mean caring enough to actually consider doing something. I'm at the point now. Where I'm just considering making some kind of anonymous youtube channel. So I can try spreading whatever information I can to make people give a fuck. Before it's too late to unfuck us.

It's about the recent laws for ID online, AI surveillance, Ties to the CIA, the fact that billionaires are the ones pushing for it, along with government agencies. That they don't give a fuck about your children's safety, they never have, and they never will. Both parties are pushing for it. They just lie about the reason they want it depending on who's trying to sell it. The left want to, so they can censor people more effectively, the right so your heckin kiddos are going to be safe while you neglect them.

They got 8 tests for date and it is supposed to be drop in replacement for coreutils? If they intend to produce one they would need to at least scrape all the uses of date that all ubuntu packages employ and then write test that check if the output of real date is equivalent to their rust cargo cult alternative.

That is absolutely true. At least is there was an intention to actually provide a replacement and then continue to maintain it. But there wasn't.
Make sure that you do not break anything because it is important that you do not break shit. Even that old old script that some user has been running on some forgotten system since 1997. You should not break it, even if he depends on some really obscure behavior.

Or at least, you should at least make an attempt to not break it. But this is rust trannies. They did not even try to make a good faith attempt to not break things. But even worse,
coreutils is the kind of package that you want to be well maintained for the next several decades.
Do you think these people will make that kind of commitment? You can not make any assumptions on the longevity of any maintenance promise. For all we know, after the next dilaltion session the troon might decide to abandon the project and switch to a different one.

The fucking package is abandoned, so they had to fix it in some of the forks of this package. But most of the forks were abandoned too.
One of the forks where the maintainer even responded just decided to archive the project instead of fixing it.
That is how trannies maintain shit. It is even worse than shit maintained by jeets.

You are legit insane if you use or depend on software "maintained" by a tranny.

One of advantages of not having language specific package manager is the fact that the effort to get your library published filters out lazy maintainers.

It's the mid-wit pseudo-intellectual redditor personality that irritates me. This is a guy who carves a narrow niche in software development, and then uses this narrow view to have a take on other areas in software development, without the full understanding to accurately assess a given topic. I don't know what it is about people like this, but they simply can't say something like "well I don't really know enough about topic X to give a fair assessment", or even pull in additional resources (surely there are other content creators who are experts on X topic you can engage with on such topics). Instead, they will take some broad understanding and utilize their expertise in their main area of focus to back up why they are an authority.

Maybe I'm reaching here, any web developers please chime in and correct me, but it honestly feels like most work in the industry involves shitting out some initial Proof of Concept and then constantly rewriting this to align with some new mindset at the company. For example, leadership at the company decides that their web app must be entirely client side, so they re-design their app using some React-based framework that entirely uses Client Side Rendering. Then, as a result of concerns from users about slow load times as a result of a heavy application, they walk this back and now they want to take advantage of Server Side Rendering through a framework like Next.js. Similar rewrite scenarios with say JavaScript to TypeScript to JSDoc.

The reason I highlight this stuff is that there doesn't seem to be an industry consensus on what tools/frameworks/etc to use for particular web app scenarios. Take this, and then consider these web developer influencer/content creators who adamantly state that X obscure library or framework is the future, and you are stupid if you think otherwise, for it to then silently die off in the massive pile of obsolete libraries. I feel like web development is one of the worst areas of software development to have such a smug "I know better than you, you are wrong and stupid if you don't have X opinion on this topic", when in many cases, there is flipping back and forth on given development approaches/frameworks/tools/etc.
