the kind of mental retardation that can only be supported by monopoly power.
Scale magnifies everything: good and evil. If you think for-profit companies are retarded, just wait for the level of 'tardiness non-profit companies are capable of. If there is ever a one with the size of Microsoft, the damage would be incomprehensible. For-profit monopolies at least one day end.

Edit:
What I personally fear is all companies becoming primarily vendors for governments, then they cannot end, ever. Without recycling, they have for-profit drive, without need for profit; off-ramp is gone. In essence: the worst of both for-profit, and non-profit.

Listening to it. I was just trying to think of the proprietary software that I would say is fast, and minimal, and optimized that I've used.

Maybe in game development it is. I would say that they are the exception to the rule in general when it comes to coding.

But for the things I've used, I seriously can't think of something I used that was proprietary that I thought, man why can't any open software do it this fast?

Instead my average experience is a noticable lag. Certainly when opening. 1G of memory being used at a minimum while running, and Ive seen things that are actually closer to 4 or 6gb. Which is fucking insane. And maybe that's an acceptable thing for some people. It's not for me. When I can use something that has no noticable latency. And even launching is fast enough that I don't notice a delay.

The main thing I think of with this is editors. Because they are the only thing I've used in the recent past where I could directly compare. Although they just echoed my experience using things on windows. I thought computers were always just slow, and it was normal to sit around to wait for things to open when you launch them.

I think his point is that neither proprietary nor open-source software is fast or minimal.

However, oftentimes it's open-source people making claims in his chat that if he just made whatever he is working on open-source, right now, it would magically solve all his problems and make it good, which is false, and so he proceeds to rant, which is enjoyable for some.

Thought this might be of interest here. Malware hackers are creating malware named after AI generated hallucinated references and packages in the hopes they'll scrape them and reference them exactly in future to get lazy codecels to just click past them unthinking to gain access. From EUROPOLs cybercrime assessment 2025 report:
1767828357928.png
The current IOCTA (Internet Organised Crime Threat Assessment) by EUROPOL from 2025 is focused on data collection and the exploitation of it by cybercriminals. The IOCTA ha a really interesting paragraph about abuse of AI by criminals to do "slobsquatting". Essentially spamming an AI agent with queries to hallucinate fake code repositories, libraries and packages or scrapping images and posts of people showcasing the hallucinated references to THEN create malware exactly named as such to public repositories so the next time a lazy codecel searches up something the AI will then reference the past hallucinated results with the newly created malware and unthinkingly click past it. Automatically compromising their device with whatever insane malware is possible now.

I can see it now: The "AI" made a mistake that you exploited. This is unacceptable criminal contempt of business model!

There's a perspective, never mentioned, noting how law enforcement never had access to most conversations in the first place, for most of human history. They had to investigate crimes rather than pore through logs. They want all of the advantages with none of the disadvantages, per usual.

I've mentioned in either this thread or the Linux thread about how I'm been using a system with barely any or broken configurations some time ago, I'm been changing that as of late and so I'm been reading the docs of the programs that I use.
Enter the subject of this post, Leonardo Gibrowski Faé's swww (a). swww is a neat wallpaper manager for Wayland that supports animated media efficiently and its not a overkill as other solutions. It also supports changing wallpapers at runtime and has animations to do so. As I spent some time looking for what programs I want on my PC, after evaluating all choices, this seemed to be the right one.

Why should I be writing about such a simple and harmless piece of software? If you visit the GitHub, the project has been archived, moved to CodeBerg and even renamed, with a link to a personal blog explaining why (a)

I am the creator and maintainer of a somewhat popular wayland wallpaper manager: swww. swww has two killer features:

  • supports setting wallpapers without restarting the daemon
  • supports animated wallpapers with animated gifs or animated pngs
When I first created it, these things did not really exist in the wayland ecosystem. Stuff like swaybg, despite being very well built, only support setting a single wallpaper on startup. This means, if you want to change the wallpaper during runtime, you must pkill the daemon, and then start it again. This led to your background being completely dark during the in-between time while you restarted the daemon. Even a script automating the process could still have a quick flash, and even if it didn't, it still made the transition seem very abrupt. So swww allows you to change that at runtime, with a nice-looking transition animation that's quite pleasant.

Regarding animated wallpapers, mpvpaper existed before swww, and it works quite well if you want to use video as your wallpaper. Unfortunately, I found it to consume far too much CPU and RAM when I used it for simple animated images. At the time, I had a dual monitor setup, and I had to fire up one mpvpaper instance per monitor, which made it use quite a bit of resources. swww does not support video, but it is far better at using animated images like gifs and apngs.

The project has become more popular than I initially anticipated. Many people came in with feature requests, bug reports, PRs, and sometimes even just simple words of appreciation. I am very grateful to all my users, and I take care not to break their setups, though truthfully I may have done that quite a few times now 😅.

swww means a lot to me, as my first Open Source project, as something I did that has a fair amount of users, and as a codebase I have spent a long time developing. In fact, you can see my growth as a programmer by going through its git history. I began using a bunch of libraries that exposed high-level APIs and slowly trimmed the code base more and more, reimplemented many low-level functions manually, until it arrived at what it looks like today.

Regreattably, swww has a rather nasty history regarding its name, something that has been eating away at me for some time now.

The first name: fswww

If you go through the project's git history, you will find that it used to have a different name: fswww. This stood for "the Final Solution to your Wayland Wallpaper Woes". Now, hopefully I needn't explain to you what Final Solution is a reference for, but I sure as hell would have appreciated if someone could have pointed it out to me at the time. I simply thought the name sounded cool, and thus it was so was called during its initial lifetime.

The second name: swww

This commit then changed the project's name to swww, dropping the "final". I wish I could say it is because I had realized what a grotesque mistake I had made, but what happened was that I thought "fina" was too pretentious. After all, a better program could come along and make swww obsolete. There is was no reason to believe swww would forever be the last word in wayland wallpaper managing. And so the name changed to reflect my new-found humbleness.

The Ukraine and Russian war

And then the was happened. And then This article was published. And then it hit me: "oh my God this is a nazy reference. Oh my fucking God it is literally a Holocaust reference, of all things".

So yeah, the project's initial name was a Holocaust reference. I cannot put into words how stupid I feel, to this day, and how much I regret my naming choice. I wished I had used anything else. But it was done. The name was (and still is) plastered all over the git history if you look far back enough.

For a long time (3 years now), I've tried to simply ignore and forget about it. It was a dumb mistake, but project's name had changed. I already had users and did not want to inconvenience them with another name change. I did not want to publicly admit I made a fucking Holocaust reference of all things.

But, since then, the world has become more and more divided. Extreme right-wing movements seem to be popping up everywhere, and gaining an alarming amount of support. I do not wish be associated with any of this in any way, shape or form. I do not want for people to look at the git history and come to any misunderstandings. And so I am writing this post.

This has been haunting me for some time now. The idea someone could look at the git history and call me a nazi because I've the used the God-damned "final solution" name has literally kept me up a few nights. In fact, I've come to dislike the current name as well. Perhaps this may sound silly, but the seeing the word "solution" every time I open the main GitHub page has begun to cause me genuine distress.

I reached out to Drew DeVault, someone who's very outspoken about the presence of extreme right-wing sympathisers in the Open Source community, and he gave me the wise advice that perhaps I should choose a name I love, rather than one I won't be ashamed of. I have taken his words to heart, and am thus renaming the project to...

awww - an Answer to your Wayland Wallpaper Woes

Honestly, I feel kind of dumb not to have done this sooner. The new name's acronym is quite cute, and completely sidesteps the annoying nazy vibes I was getting before.

As a bonus, because the project's name is changing anyway, I've decided to move it to codeberg. This is something I've thought of doing for a while, but avoided it because I didn't want to break downstream.

To my users: thanks for sticking with me through these years. I have a few plans for making awww even more resource efficient. Including possibly making it idle with less than 1MB on linux systems!

To the package maintainers: I am breaking downstream again. Sorry about that. I've come to realize you are doing some insane work maintaining all these packages, and I apologize for increasing your workload.

As you read the article, when you get to the "first name part" it comes across as how could someone be so based to quickly seeing how fast he folds and cucks out, to mentioning the Ukraine and Russian war and how him reading that Putin == Hitler cracked his world view, and how the original name sitting in his git commit history haunted him for over three years making him lose sleep over it because God forbid someone did a reference to the holly, even if it was by mistake. Obtained permanent PTSD to the word "solution".

How did he fix this? To avoid being related to the ever growing extreme right wing, by contacting our own and only Drew DeVault.

Overall a pretty laughable story to point out. As with all software made by the woke mind virus, if its good, I'll just keep using it, as there's probably no better bane for them than a True and Honest Chud using their Open Source software.

There you are, giving your software project a cute name, and all the sudden....you're a Nazi. You didnt ask for this, you didn't choose this, yet there it is and it's treated no differently than being a Jewish tranny.

It's funny seeing it mentioned here. I thought they were being a bit ridiculous when I saw they renamed the project. And yeah. Asking Drew Devault how they can atone for their heinous mistake of accidentally making a ww2 reference is just cringe.

It is the best wallpaper tools I've used though, including ones I use on x11.

Imagine being this buck broken. IMAGINE having a fucking essay about the latest goy war, and IMAGINE talking to Drew "Nigger" DeVault of all people as if he's some grand authority. Absolute brimstone niggerhell IQ on these people. Sorry guise, "nmap" contains the letter "n". Now, hopefully I don't have to explain to you what "N word" is a reference for, but I sure as hell would have appreciated if someone could have pointed it out to me at the time. If I didn't have a life, and had a ton of extra free time. I bet it would be pretty easy to get some laughs with something simple like opening issues with usernames that had nazi references, or right wing meme references. Especially if they are actual pull requests, or issue reports otherwise. And the people either have to ignore the username and interact normally, or they will clutch their pearls about it and freak out possibly ignoring an actual issue because of the username.

Idk. Sometimes I'll think of some fun things to do like that. But I literally don't have the time. And wouldn't want to put in the effort to open a ton of git accounts with different usernames (or whatever the I think would be funny troll would entail).

And to be clear, I'm not saying someone should do this. It would definitely be a waste of time, and for the most part these people don't need any help being a joke anyway. They do it just fine on their own, so it's really not necessary. Just something I was thinking about.

IMAGINE talking to Drew "Nigger" DeVault o
Excuse me, what you're referring to as Nigger DeVault is actually Loliphile+Pedophile/DeVault, on account of the fact that he posts to Loli Image Boards like DanBooro and subscribes for pay access to searching by loli tags, and also advocates for teenage girls to get state mandated implanted birth control because he's disillusional enough to think any 16 year old girl who isn't a retarded psychopath would actually fuck him instead of seeing him for the feminized, retardid, cuck failure-of-a-manhuman that he is

at this point I am fully convinced that the left/woke are so buck broken that if you showed them a picture of someone wearing a maga hat using thier software they would explode.

"And then the was happened. And then This article was published. And then it hit me: "oh my God this is a nazy[spells it wrong] reference. Oh my fucking God it is literally a Holocaust reference, of all things."

You have to be either super fucking retarded or strangled of your oxygen by Spew Cuckvault to suddenly, after so many years, "think" to yourself that a project of yours has been using a SIMPLISTIC COMBINATION OF WORDS that just so happened to be used by a authoritarian figure or two so therefor you should act like an absolute nigger by changing the project's name.

"This has been haunting me for some time now. BAHAHAHAHA! Are you fucking kidding me?

"Honestly, I feel kind of dumb not to have done this sooner. The new name's acronym is quite cute, and completely sidesteps the annoying nazy[spells it wrong again???] vibes I was getting before."

You got worried over a reference you didn't intentionally make for at least 2 years but every regular person was fine with the name throughout that time. There was no need to act like a pussy over this, SERIOUSLY.

Enter the subject of this post, Leonardo Gibrowski Faé's swww (a). swww
I actually used this, it's a neat little program.

This shit is insanely gay and retarded, my God. There's something seriously wrong with you if you associate "Solution" with the fucking holocaust. We ought to ban mathematics as well then, with all its "solutions", mathematicians are clearly Nazi figures in disguise, even though most maths fans are faggots. Could anyone find an innuendo for "answer" or perhaps even "woe", just for him to do it again and write twenty-five fucking paragraphs worth about how stupid he was for thinking of a quick-and-dirty name on the fly and how he was literally a Nazi until he saw the light once more and changed for the better because of a fucking name?

And this is why us racist chuds need to use popular distroes like Dear Feeder teaches, to make the trannies mald and hate.

We nee a KF-Linux distro. Where we fork popular packages and rename them to include racial slurs in the package name.

I for one look forward to be using NiggerWWW instead of swww in this future distro.
Perhaps our fork could be changed to default to a background picture of a svastika ?

Funny anecdote: "Nasi" in Hebrew means "ruler", akin to a head of state. There were the Nazirites, but "Netser", the root word for Nazareth doesn't have much to do with Nasi, as it means "branch". I think there are some Arabic words, maybe names, which are "Nazir" (which, a quick google says it means "foreteller", "warner" or even "admonisher").
Anyway...

This seems like a nothingburger, and she wants attention to distract from scummy actions someone may have done.

Don't forget the kike and tranny bashing, and by using NIGGER+ licence.
