Because you can't charge for your labor if the product of that labor can be obtained for free
Just don't do work until you're paid? Is this really so hard for the copyrightcaca to understand?
Copyright exists to prevent unauthorized distribution of intellectual property because free distribution removes the monetary incentive, but that same protection also encourages the creation of new works and innovations
Hardly at all, many for-profit institutions exist around open source software and are capable of keeping the lights on. I don't see why we need an "incentive" mechanism that only serves to restrict information away from people and ruin lives when that restriction is "violated". It doesn't tangibly create better content as the current state of entertainment and the software industry makes clear and only serves to create monopolies and reduces competition and quality.

Above all that: I do not see how the failed business model of other people is my problem. Maybe they need to start charging for their labor instead of putting out data that anyone can copy for practically no cost.
. The Founding Fathers implemented copyright into the Constitution as legal doctrine specifically to encourage the growth of original works in the United States.
Yes and it was a mistake
No, we've always had an analogue for copyright, they were called guilds. You think that intellectual property was any more accessible under a guild system than under copyright? Let's go back to the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers. :story:
You're just using the example of proto-copyright as an example of why we need copyright, that its somehow "superior" to people than its originating point. Isn't that the institution that literally gave copyright its namesake by granting "rights to copy" works? It's the same shit as what we have now, I don't see how this is a tangible argument.
That's not how copyright works nor is it its purpose, you're twisting the facts to meet the premise.
computers have reduced the cost of copying to nothing, in any other industry where the lowering of cost of business removes the need for other businesses, the industry is let to fall. The intention of copyright does not matter compared to its actual use.
Yet those same car companies make use of trademarks, patents and copyright to protect their brands, engineering and vehicle designs.
And that's bad, I don't want that. Why mention that? Outside of trademarks (which shouldn't even be in discussion, that's a fraud prevention mechanism), patents and copyright only serve to hurt the customers by lowering the amount of competition in the market. If you can't keep up with the market, how is that my problem?
They certainly tried. The US implemented red flag laws when cars first started appearing there, which required a man to walk in front of a car with a red flag to warn people it was coming. This restricted the utility of the car for what should be obvious reasons. This was a protectionist law at the behest of several groups, including farriers and other horse-related trades. These laws eventually evolved into the road safety laws that are still in use today.
very interesting historically, thankfully the protectionist laws changed away from just being a way for companies to grantee revenue at the expense of the customer towards laws that value public safety so that people are not physically injured

What would you be paid for if there is no profit to be derived from your labor?

Independent film makers had their careers ruined during the 2000s when their films were leaked to the public via torrents. Crytek, Epic Games, Shrapnel Games and Looking Glass Studios were all PC game developers that either had to move away from PC to walled-garden console releases or shut down entirely due to piracy. Piracy hurts small, independent operations the most, not large companies.

The abolition of copyright wouldn't help anything either. It would, in fact, make everything bad about the film industry worse. You can say goodbye to physical media or livestreaming, film would become a movie theater concept only again. They would do everything possible to make it a walled garden experience.
Above all that: I do not see how the failed business model of other people is my problem. Maybe they need to start charging for their labor instead of putting out data that anyone can copy for practically no cost.
I don't see how store looting or border crossing or breaking and entering are a problem either.

So was the First Amendment, the Second Amendment, the Third Amendment, the Fourth, the Fifth, the Nineteenth, so on and so forth.

It's tangible because guilds predate copyright, you didn't notice that copyright was bolted onto guilds when it was first invented? Why would anyone use a guild to enforce copyright measures... unless it was already fit for purpose?🤔

Copyright is about more than simple copying, you know that but pretend otherwise.
And that's bad, I don't want that. Why mention that?
Because it's relevant.
Outside of trademarks (which shouldn't even be in discussion, that's a fraud prevention mechanism)
Oh, so a form of intellectual property protection is good now?
patents and copyright only serve to hurt the customers by lowering the amount of competition in the market.
It stops the proliferation of inferior knockoff products masquerading as the genuine article, which protects the customers.

The phrase "chatbot code" is a giant signal in of itself that he doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to AI code. If he is also a leftist politisperg, what value does he provide?

Again, it's interesting if you're a clankerhater. If you're already so on board with the LLM takeover of thought that you're going to pick nits over LLM-generated code being called "chatbot code," it's not for you.

Being knowledgable is a value within itself.

Imagine two Islam haters. A guy who thinks Muslims worship the moon and Mecca is a weird alien rock is a lot less interesting than the guy who can quote all Hadith of the top of his head, knows minute differences between different sects and can out debate imams on the validity of different scholarly arguments and still wants the whole of Middle East genocided.

A phrase like 'chatbot code' is fundementally disconnected from how agentic coding works. If it was particularly funny, or even inherently insulting, I could see someone disregarding accuracy for other benefits. Seems like a worthless slur. The only thing it achieves is signaling that he doesn't know what he's talking about.

I don't need you to be tokenburner, a matrixshark. I specifically asked what value he provides. He's not knowledgable, he doesn't provide good arguments; he is a leftysperg, so you're not getting pleasure out of owning the libs.

So, what value does he provide?

An overview of Torvalds going full clankerfucker and how LLM code is already infesting the Linux kernel.
Powerful cringe, casus belli for BSD migration has never been more potent. And yes sweaty, I know that all (sans NetBSD?) of them have *some* AI commits, but none are as ensloppified as ye olde 30000 LoC per patch cumnux over here.

They act like Indians. If you dare >imply that their Chucky Cheese tokens are not all powerful, they WILL have to call you names and street shit. It's the only way they can regain lost izzat. Unintently, they are a form of lol cow that is native to the Kiwi Farms. I'm not going to name anyone, but we've all seen it even here on the 'Farms.
GNU/Spunk, of course.

UGHHHH YOU FUCKING FUCKS DON'T LIKE BOT CUM? MUST BE COMMUNISUM. PRETENDING THAT BOT CUM ISN'T DELICIOUS ISN'T GOING TO STOP THE PROUCTION OF THICKER BOT CUM SWEATY, THE RAPID ADVANCEMENT OF CUM PUMPS ARE PRODUCING STAGGERING RESULTS, UNLIKE YOUR UNCUMMED STALL-MAN, CHUD.

If only they were native here, they are ubiquitous across 4chan and many project IRCs, wading from place to place like the pacific garbage patch to DEMAND that you MUST add a pro-AI policy NOW NOW NOW or else you will be le outpaced and le left behind!!!!!11!!! I don't know if it's just me, but I despise this hyper-utilitarian poison everyone has collectively bottom-upped. A lot of FOSSworks are hobby projects that have SOVL, and as 'productive' as the cumbot may or may not be, it can't forge SOVL. I like things that move slow and are made by MAN.
This place has a sizeable clanker fetish community simping for jewish and crypto jewish scams. It does make sense though, given they use the same rhetorics as a certain cult worshipping a demented shabbos goy boomer mesmerized by slop. They clearly know nothing about, nor have ever been involved in software deveopment
What's funny is how the AI CW thread is supposed to cover AI haters AND AI technocultists, but is populated entirely by the latter. They even adopted an insult from an actual indian on 4cuck.

Unfortunately the OP is a faggot leftist.
Though this case is really interesting, with how the mindset of Torvalds has degraded so much with his age. The same happened with uncle Bob (though it can't be said that he actually created anything good. In fact, he is the author of a great evil plaguing software dev.) I've been seeing a lot of tech oldfags who have gotten older become complete AI worshippers.
BSD bros still winning… for now at least.
casus belli for BSD migration
If any of you do actually come to BSD, leave your licensefagging and linuxisms at the door.

To be fair, the technocultists tend to be in so deep that even their sperging is AI-generated, which makes it less entertaining. It also tends to be very similar to the marketing material.

For better or worse, that thread is the child of AI Art Seething General. At any rate, the topic is clearly too pervasive to be contained in a single thread.
