I'm to some degree accepting of otherkin ideals, like believing you were an animal in a past life? Fine. Hurts no one. Animals exist. Spirituality is whatever.
But Fictionkin? I hate it. And Eddsworld kin? God, do they realize the characters were based off real people and Edd himself died from Cancer? Comes off disrespectful as shit. A person genuinely believing in fictionkin sets massive red flags.

I'm of the opinion that even fictionkin is tolerable to a point, until they start slapfighting over who is the "realest" Levi from Attack on Titan and proceed to flood fandom tags on social media with their stupid callout bullshit which usually consists of complete irrelevant garbage like "X kinned as Wesker from Resident Evil before adopting my kintype (that I had first!!), who is a well-documented bioterrorist and therefore too evil kin Pinkie Pie from MLP". It's a lot like self-shipping in my opinion; I'm okay with letting the kids play with their dolls in the sandbox but when they start hitting each other and throwing tantrums demanding that the other kids don't get to play with a specific toy they like because they "called it first!" it's enough to make anyone want to slam dunk them straight into time out.

I do think the line for both shipping and kinning should be drawn at real people unless you're explicitly writing troll fic or parody. K-pop stans are the most obvious offenders of this phenomena nowadays which is fucked up because most of the people they write about are teens and young adults who are basicaly stuck as marketing pieces for their particular industry, but even before then people were shipping Western bands together (MCR/FOB shipping was big among emo kids in the 2000s). While oftentimes the outcome on shipping isn't as extreme when it comes to kintype drama (though I see it as equally stupid), and as mentioned above kinning or shipping people who are dead is especially fucked up and horrific in my opinion. It doesn't stop at Eddsworld either, I remember back on Tumblr there used to be serial killer shippies/kinnies for people like Jeffry Dahmer and the Columbia kids.

i have a soft spot for otherkin, because most of them are just the equivalent of the horse girl from like 20 years ago.
both the edgy fandom roleplayers and the mentally ill teenagers typically (not always) grow out of it or get some help.

i'm usually optimistic about these people because sometimes being a dumpy girl in the middle of nowhere is boring.
