Ck3's Coronation DLC is shit. To the surprise of no one. It has one activity (obviously), which takes way too long and then the Oaths, the only part I kinda thought would be cool since they were essentially the return of CK2's Ambitions, are absolutely ass rapeingly hard to complete, and the penalty for failing them is insane.

The devs have said they are cancelling dev diaries to finish the chink dlc, and after this shit...we may be in for a second Stellaris level disaster later this year.
Glad I jumped ship long before this. I imagine this means that China isn't going to be good and will be exactly the waste of time and processing power I think it will be.

Oh wow the latest DLC is a giant crock of shit. who could have known, it's not like they have a years long record of doing just that.
IMAGINE being so demoralized you continue to give money to p*radox in any way shape or form :story:
But it's okay I'm sure EU5 will tooootally different, they toootally won't do it... again! :smug:

You going to have anything new to say or can we just assume it's all going to be a variation on the same post until the end of time?

Well you see if the universe is truly infinite that means that inevitably everything that has ever happened will happen again and has already happened before, infinitely, and will continue to do so, forever :smug:
I'll do my best to advance the kalpa for you though; I'm actually really looking forward to when CK3 gets taken out behind a sw*dish cuckshed and shot because the mods will finally be able to catch up properly, we didn't get a proper depozzed version of After the End until CK2 ceased development, and seeing as E$5 is set to be the next D E S I G N A T E D bloatcow I anticipate a lack of competition for attention. It'll be a true golden age of innovation assuming the swedes don't fuck it for everyone somehow.

Same post until the end of time it is.

So it would seem, so it would seem.

Ck3 makes me sad because I want to like it so much but Paradox has fucked it up since release. We should have known after they delayed the first DLC for a year to add a 3D court room literally no one ever uses. The least they could have fucking done is make normal events happen in your court room instead of a window.

CK3 is super fun on the first run you play, but after that, it's almost impossible to play for more than 5 minutes because it doesn't matter where in the mpa you start, the strategy is always the same. There's only one way to play the game. No other viable options.

Very repetitive. But the first time, when everything is fresh and new, it's an amazing experience. But the game dies alongside your first dynasty.

That 3D court room fucking sucked and is when I bailed. Fussy to use and a 2D would have been so much easier but they had a bunch of 3D artists laying around they had to make work for.

It truly is tragic because it started out so well, ran well, added real distinctions between cultures and religions, stronger influence over your army's composition, very moddable UI. But it's clear that the people that hire have bad priorities for the game, and are seemingly averse to adding depth to any element of the game. No curia, no autocephaly, no barons, no trade, no navies.

Making CK3 3d was probably the worst decision pdx made during the entire process of its creation. I just watched a pretty interesting video on Rimworld and why its dev intentionally made the graphics minimalistic to take advantage of our human need to fill in gaps in visual information. This is why we see faces in clouds and such, and when we do this it personalises the actions of characters and makes it feel REAL to us, even if the actual representation is simplistic.

CK2 does this with its static portraits. Its just enough info to get a gauge on a character, but everything else is made up in the player's head. This leads to our connection to that character feeling more intimate and compelling than can be achieved through more detailed artwork. By having CK3 use 3d models we have to accept the animations of those models as "canonical" to the events described, and the animations in the game are pretty shit. And thus, our connection to our character falls into a kind of uncanny valley.

So yeah, tldr, CK3 was fucked from the start.

CK3 is the same as Vic 3, where they are pieces of shit that don't resemble their predecessor and it would've been much better if they were simply more modern versions of them with better engines and moddability.
The worst thing about both of them is that in both cases they correctly identified some things that fans wanted to see, had decent ideas on how to implement them, and drove them into the ground by marrying them to game design that panders to the lowest common denominator (HOI4/reddit fans). Having other pops than capitalists be able to invest was a good idea for Vicky, that's absolutely something I would hope the Open Vic people can make. Shame it's been married to an utter failure of a game. Same with stuff like CK3's inventions. At least CK3 can say it was wasted potential instead of doomed to fail from the start like Vicky 3.

I have no interest in the roleplaying aspects of CK and would rather just have a medieval mapgame, which is the opposite of what CK3 delivers. At least EU5 will partially fill that and even more with timeline extension mods.

Wait what? Why does CK3 still lack the curia so long after launch???

According to a poll pdx ran earlier this year, its probably coming some time next year. After the chink expansion buries any semblence of playablility. Until then, The Catholic Trinity mod adds it. Still, the fact that CK3 is only playable due to modders is a damning indictment of its lack of interesting systems. I love CK2 modded, but I can still play a vanilla game and have a pretty great time. The idea of playing CK3 vanilla makes me want to find a sturdy beam for my rope.

I like the flavor, but Russia literally assimilating everybody and having infinite manpower/stability is kinda silly.

EU5 is by far the worst offender. Ck3 I can see your point even if I still think the 3d portraits were a good addition to ck. EU5 is just a disaster. The 3d portraits are ugly and don't fit at all the style of the game. They also missed a completely golden opportunity with the eras since the game spans 500 years. They could have had a 2d art style for each era similar to the actual art of that era. It would have been immersive as fuck. You start out medieval art style drawings of your leaders, and finish the game with the professional almost photo realistic artistic portraits that we saw in the napoleonic era. Sort of like Hoi4 does which looks fantastically fitted to its era. But nope we get down syndrome looking soulless 3d portraits splashed across every screen and AI generated looking slop art for all the events. What a missed opportunity.

The playtesters have received a new build of EU5 and it has greatly improved the game:
  • Buildings now require upkeep, preventing spamming them, makes economy experience tighter for the player and the AI handles it well. Makes him focus more on RGOs and roads
  • Forts are not as common on the map (were everywhere before), there is now a slider for fort maintenance which helps the AI economy but also makes them easier to assault, the pacing of wars is much better now.
  • Subject limit greatly reduced
  • Parliament is no longer as overpowered (he would previously not use it at all because of how OP it was) the buffs are now weaker and cause more estate disloyalty, parliament CB costs increased. Still thinks it's too powerful because of it making it possible to change laws without stability impact
  • Bailiffs building now has maintenance costs and the control bonus has been reduced from 30 to 20, this helps slow down becoming OP
  • Performance has been improved, speed 5 now feels much faster
  • Colonisation works better now thanks to AI economy improvements
  • Playing as Brandenburg, becoming the emperor is now appropriately difficult
  • Big quality-of-life improvements in the form of new UI buttons and interfaces for religion, levies, and formable nations
  • Leaving the HRE now requires beating the Emperor
  • Raised levies block war dec like in CK
  • Could only start affording a professional army in the early 1400s
  • Rebels are now a meaningful challenge that is disruptive, civil wars too because they reset control to 0
tl;dr: The game is now slower paced, can't become OP as fast as expansion is forced to be slower and careful. Economy is the biggest limiter and it feels rewarding to grow and optimise it, big improvement over the previous builds
