So I’ve downloaded Hearts of Iron 3 and I’m having difficulty with the mechanics. I’m a complete newb to both the paradox strategy games and the 4x genre so the problem is most likely with me not the game.

HOI3 has those pre-set campaign scenarios where the map is locked down to a smaller area so you can get to grips with pushing divisions around the map without having to worry about diplomacy and all that.

After seeing Paradox sale on Steam I went hogwild and finally took the plunge. Purchased all Hearts of Iron games (with all DLC), Darkest Hour, Arsenal of Democracy, and Victoria II (with all DLC). I'm ready to dig in and see what these games are all about.

I'm starting from the very bottom, checking out quill's tutorial videos just to get a feel for the UI, at least.

Any additional pointers/advice would be greatly appreciated, guys.

Quill is a good start.

Cool, I'll probably start with HOI4 and see how it goes. Looks rather daunting, I'm pretty unfamiliar with the genre but I want to learn.

Nice, just finished watching his first 3 tutorial videos, it was pretty useful!

At the same time, holy balls the amount of mods ended up selling me on the franchise... so much room for activities!

The DLC literally everyone predicted for Stellaris has been officially announced.
Expanded Federations: With expanded diplomacy capabilities, players can build up the internal cohesion of their Federations and unlock powerful rewards for all members. Whether you join a Trade League, Martial Alliance, or Hegemony, membership can be extremely advantageous.

Galactic Community: Unite the space empires with a galactic senate that can vote on a wide range of resolutions to drive legislative agendas. For example, players can pass a resolution to increase commitments to collective defense or funnel profit towards wealthy elites. Members can also sanction those who defy the community, and enact a single galactic focus. Sway the senate to position yourself as a leader, trading favors and maneuvering, doing whatever it takes to gain influence among schemers.

Origins: Each empire has a story that shapes its path. Give your civilization deeper roots with the new system of Origins. By choosing an Origin, players can flesh out their empire’s background and alter its starting conditions. Whether it’s Void Dwellers who have abandoned their homeworld to live in perpetual orbit, or a society that worships and protects a powerful Tree of Life, you can lay the groundwork wisely for the seeds of your empire.

New constructions: Construct glorious new projects for your empire like the Juggernaut, a massive mobile starbase that provides a moveable repair base even in enemy territory, or the Mega Shipyard, a new megastructure that can churn out fleets with incredible speed. Offering both tactical advantages and a good dose of shock and/or awe, these are sure to be an asset to any space empire.
Notably, the previously teased Origins feature might be part of the DLC and not free, but they might have just put it in there to pad out the description.

Additionally, a species pack for rock-based species is coming soon.

So, I guess we have CK3 now, you guys ready for another huge batch of DLC that will be upwards of 300 dollars?

Oh no, it's exceptional.
Good, the idea that the pope might actually say those two words in a video game has me literally shaking. Crusader Kings is a wholesome and woke game about sister fucking, baby murder, expelling the jews, castration, human sacrifice, witch burning, cannibalism and turning captured women into rape wives.

Fucking Swedes.

The only thing worse than a game company based out of California is one that is based out of Sweden.

I've noticed that Paradox sort of has a de facto monopoly on grand strategy games, but I'd like to see a competitor in that market who won't do all the horrible shit Paradox does, like the woke shit or more importantly, deliberately releasing a bare bones incomplete game just to gouge their customers for DLC's.

Fuck, at this rate, Crusader Kings III will only have the Europeans do those bad things while all the Islamic rulers will all be pure goody two-shoes.

I know that sounds ridiculous, but this is a Swedish game we are talking about here. The only country that is as self-destructively woke as Sweden is Germany (although the UK is in a very close second)

Paradox needs some real competition.

Came here to post the RPS article. It's being torn to shreds on /vg/, /pol/, and even /his/ right now, not to mention the special containment thread set up on Paradox's own forums. As far as I can see no one is happy about this, apart from a few people who think everyone is a fascist, Nazi, Alt-Righter. Looks like the inflammatory language in the article is what has set most people off. Most don't seem to care too much about that particular phrase being removed, but more that Paradox is bowing to the outrage mob and this is going to have much deeper ramifications. I would agree, plus it looks like they're dumbing it down to be more "accessible".

This shit is insane. Surprised the game is even on PC since all pc gamers are racist incels.

Dude, this upcoming Spanish Nationalist focus tree looks siiiick.

¡VIVA CRISTO REY! ¡VIVA ESPAÑA!

The problem is, like everyone says and I'm realizing now, that Paradox is gonna rip us all off with it as upcoming DLC, and it's not gonna be cheap. Gahdamn it, Paradox.

While this also looks cool, I'm reading that espionage was already a feature in vanilla HOI3 but it's now being sold as DLC for HOI4, right? oh man...

I cant give you anything from inside their forum since im banned for posting China memes after their mobile stellaris trailer.

I dont care about the price, they burned me with the last 2 games. i will pirate their new games till they fix I:R, the AI in HoI4 and the MP in EU4.

Germany isnt tat woke, we just have some special stuff rooted in history.
