Don't forget, an author only gets around 25% of a Publisher's revenue in a standard book deal. The Kindle prices are probably similar to the Publisher's revenue if we're being extremely generous, so Quasi's debt already far eclipses anything he's made so far.

Pat seems incapable of looking at things from Twitter's point of view for even one second and realizing that 1) anyone who wants a checkmark could themselves create as many fake impostor accounts as they want until they get it and 2) the checkmarks are a significant revenue stream for Twitter, meaning that this would cost them money. He has neither empathy nor common sense.

And if you're lazy and/or have more money than brains, you can buy them by any size batch imaginable, specifying things like age and "followers." I'm not going to link to one of these sleazy operations but even Google will give you a bunch of these things if you Google buy twitter accounts. I'm pretty sure you can buy reddit accounts "aged" or whatever too.
I'm aware of these stores, chink wumaos run to these stores in attempt to look legitimate, Twitter can and will suspend these accounts if you're guilty of wrongthink. Hell I've seen accounts who post nothing but animal pictures and Bible quotes get gulag'd.
