There are a lot of people requesting name changes from me so I think it's best if I formalise policy on this.

Name changes are permitted under the following limited circumstances:
  1. Witness Protection: Because of the nature of the board, we tend to attract rather volatile individuals. If you are being harassed from inside or outside the community, by members or non-members, because your username "keys itself" to your real name or other online identities, a one-time name change will be granted. Be careful though, because if I discover like bestiality videos or white trashionalist rants you made elsewhere online as a result of your name change request, then that's gonna result in a ban.

Best practice dictates that new users' selection of username does not reveal their online presence elsewhere. To ensure this request is granted, please provide evidence of unwanted correspondence you have received as a result of your username.

  2. Registration Screw-up: If you're a new user and decide you would like a name change because of registration error (or you just didn't like the name you picked), you may request a one-time name change. Requests for changing names not made in error will only be granted for up to three weeks following registration; requests for names registered erroneously will be granted indefinitely.

  3. Revert to Previous Identity: Several name changes were done prior to this writing; if you want them undone, you can request your old name back. This is a one-way change and I won't put the new name back. If I can't verify it's actually your old name, then I can't grant the request.
Name changes will not be granted for the following:
  1. Dodging accountability: If you're an infamous member here and you want to "start over", letting you start over is just going to result in another infamous member with your new name. I'm not granting name changes so people will stop making fun of you. If people are making fun of you, figure out why they're doing so and do something about it; this is not a rabid pack of wolves like 4chan and we are a fairly reasonable community who's collective judgement I take into account.

  2. Boredom: This is probably 99% of requests I get for name changes. Common name changes basically result in incomprehensible chaos and nobody knows who this new person is all of a sudden. A policy allowing variations of your existing name is under consideration, however, mere preference is not currently a qualifying criterion for a name change.

I think the admin should rethink the captcha questions. It is very difficult to solve the questions because there are several possible answers. For example, the most recent question is "What is the name of a popular lolcow"
I tried several answers and all of them said they were wrong. I know my answer was right, but since I don't know specifically what the case sensitive, specific response was, it's very hard to figure out. I remember when I initially made this account it took a while to get a question I knew the answer correct answer to.

Someone new to the Sonichu fandom will have an even harder time creating an account, and even emailing a moderator for info is out of the question, as that requires the "captcha" as well.

The captcha questions are designed to keep out Chinese sweatshop workers hired to peddle spam on the forum. They literally pay peasants to sit there and punch in captchas. After implementing the Chris-related questions, spam dropped by a considerable amount and part of the reason you're probably not even aware of a spam incursion is because of them.

Finding the answers should be minimal effort to anyone serious about contributing to the forum.

By a "considerable amount" Katsu means 100%. No bots or filthy proletariat are able to complete the question.

The answers are non-case sensitive. There's about 10+ accepted formats for the name of the person that this forum is about.

Can there be a policy about different members having almost identical names? For example there are basically three Ian Brandon Somethings, two Tommy Wiseaus, and Compy Rex 1 through 4 who post and it's hard to keep up with who is who.

Ha ha. What a story, Holdek!

I guess you didn't notice it was me, hah? I am the TRUE and HONEST Tommy. The other one's not good, he is just a chicken. *Cheep cheep CHEEEEP cheep CHEE-eep*

Policy has been updated as of this writing. Name changes for usernames registered erroneously will be granted indefinitely, while usernames not registered erroneously will only have changes issued up to three weeks post-registration.

The definition of "erroneous" name registration falls onto admins, however, common sense dictates that "errors" would be misspelled words or other minor variations and usernames hastily chosen without the intent of staying.

I never intended for this to be my permanent name. I always use a throw away name on new forums till i decide if i like them. I saw null post saying no more name changes, so i said fuck it. I dont even know that i want to change my name, but i wont waste time thinking about it if its not an option. Could i get a one time name change if i want?

This is the kind of case we want to avoid as of currently, so nope.

Would it be alright if my username was shortened to just "Kamen Rider"? Just figure that might be easier when talking to people.

Only if I can get my username lengthened to Fibonacci Sequins with the :gay: flag appended to each side.

Oh good, when I registered I made a typo and accidentally misspelled "John Matrix" or "Bennett" or "Sully" or "Jenny!" or "One Gi-gantic Mo-ther-fucker" or "Have some beers in Val Verde" or "Huntin' Slash" or "Commando, Kirby, Code Red, Coordinates" or "Payday" or "Girl George" or "Downwind?!?" or "Piss-Ant Soldier" or "Rocket Launcher", could you please fix it for me?

That'd be good, as I registered with this initially and more people with similar names joined after.

However, I had asked this previously and, since it's not an exception in the rules, I'm somewhat doubtful it would happen.
