tl;dr- The police are tracking you via you proximity to cellphone towers by pinging you, can grab all your info and do this to hundreds of thousands of people at once. It's the the point it can be automated to update everytime you move, an access all your rideshare/GPS data and they're even getting cities to loosen local data protection laws to avoid legal liability. It's also in dozens of major counties.

Hey I have a positive post about China for once.

Several years ago the Chinese began selling knock-off versions of an item called Spider. It was a device that would effectively co-opt a chosen cell tower's signal and allow whoever had the device to monitor anything passing through that tower. These were items that the local police departments had deployed long before and they were pretty pissed that civilians were getting their hands on them. So of course the knock-off was banned from sale and if you had one you got a visit from your local boys in blue. So-called crazy prepper types have been aware of this for years. It's why you don't get a smart phone and if you need to have a cell phone you keep it in an old microwave when you're not using it.

Thanks China!

That's how some crimes have actually been solved. I think even crime tv shows used it as plot device. How is this news let alone a surprise to anyone who has even a rudimentary understanding how that technology works? This thread is dumb.

Good thing America isn't a police state like China or this technology might be used for sinister ends, like eliminating COVID-19.
