New Paleodocumentry in the style of Walking with Dinosaurs is coming out.

It's been a very long time since we last had a good paleodocumentry series. But there are some signs that say that this could be bad.

Experience the world of dinosaurs like never before in this epic docuseries from Executive Producer Jon Favreau and the producers of Planet Earth. With David Attenborough and accompanied by a breathtaking score by Hans Zimmer, Prehistoric Planet is a five-night documentary event coming to Apple TV+ May 23rd.

Having Jon Favreau's name attached and being an Apple TV+ exculsive makes me want to groan to no end.
But maybe he's here to bring his team of people that made the environments and animals in those disney live action remakes.

This documentary series seems to be something that I've always wanted.

(As bad as it may have been) I think The Lion King 2019 really did showed you could make
really good looking cgi animals and environments. It would be really cool if a prehistoric animal documentary uses the same technology to bring it's animals and environments that
you just can't replicate with on land film locations.

For the first time in a long time, there is something to be a least be cautiously optimistic about. Which is better said then most of the garbage that's being pushed out as of late.

Just finished the final episode, and overall Prehistoric Planet 100% scratched the quality Paleo documentary itch I've had for a long time. While a couple of segments seemed too short to really get into (looking at you Deinocheirus), the Planet Earth/Blue Planet approach ended up being something I really enjoyed, as it lent itself well to the whole concept of this being a global look at the late Cretaceous, rather than a localized and hyper-specific one.

Pterosaurs stole the show with great scenes like the hatchlings first flight and the sneaky male, but the Pachyrhinosaurus vs. Nanuqsaurus standoff, Dreadnoughtus fight, Velociraptor hunt and Troodontid arsonist were phenomenal highlights as well.

Walking with Dinosaurs still remains the undisputed king of Dino docs imo, but this is an admirable and high quality addition to an otherwise overlooked and poorly served Paleo genre.

I agree with you on the short segments especially. Some episodes felt like they didn't have enough generated footage for whatever reason, and were just 'guess we'll talk about glowing mushrooms for no reason' or 'lets waste some time looking at plants growing fast in the jungle'. Hopefully if they ever make a second season, it will have less of that happen, and also I would love to see something about Stegosaurus, my favorite dinosaur (I know its from the Jurassic, but they could cover so many time periods, not just the late one).

Haven't quite finished it yet, but it's really good. The one thing Walking with Dinosaurs definitely had over it was pathos, mainly due to the superior score, but that's less of an objective quality and more of a creative choice.

Since I mentioned that I found the music lackluster in comparison to Walking with Dinosaurs I looked up the composer. Of course it's fucking Hans Zimmer. I'm beyond sick of that guy.
