Here's a reminder that Richard Stallman has never installed GNU/Linux and doesn't know how. He could figure it out, certainly, but what use is that knowledge, really?
How would I know that if he had never done it? It is, as I stated, a basic competency test.

If you don't know how to pretty del/f2" on the BIOS boot screen to get a boot menu up, or understand what a partition is and how to create one. How much do you really know?

Briefly came into here to subject people to my crash out. I am going to fucking kill myself, I hate this project. I hate group projects. Currently finishing up testing and documenting all my tests/debugging efforts. The professor seems to be over it. This project went from "make it so good I can show it to future semesters" to "it's graded based on effort, hang in there guys.."

I have never disliked working on a project so much before. Fuck all these retarded soyware engineers that infest my major and can't code in C. All they know is Java and Python. If I have to walk someone through a basic gcc compile one more time I'm going to strangle them. We all took Programming I which was in C. We all took Operating Systems which was in C. We all took Systems Programming which was in C. How the fuck do you not know how to compile a basic fucking C program. I can't even expect ONE person to try and fix some simple fucking bug like a typo. I wrote block_ize instead of block_size and this neanderthal sends me a screenshot saying "I got this error:(" OK. You see that the variable was never declared. Maybe go into the fucking file at the line it has flagged and see that "OH, block_size was declared right above it! But bourne-again put "block_ize"..clearly that's a typo I can fix and push to the repo!" NO!!!!!!!!! THEY CAN'T EVEN DO THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"its not running:(" maybe because as I told you there is a command UNIQUE TO LINUX in there. you have a LINUX machine, why are you running this on WINDOWS when the professor said he can run both WINDOWS AND LINUX? go fuck yourself. i hate these fucking students so much

If they can't code in any language then they don't know any language. There are only three (four) programming constructs, selection, sequence, and repetition. (The fourth being data declaration). There is no difference, no matter what language, in these constructs that should filter anyone. Lisp gets a bit confusing because of (((them))) but once you either get used to it or install a 🌈brackets extension you're fine.

The worst of it is that C, Java, and Python are all ALGOLs so they're honestly all the same.

I wouldn't shoot myself if I were you. I can't tell you who to shoot, but not yourself.

That is normal, unfortunately, in industry.

Pareto comes into play with 20% of the people doing 80% of the work.

There are only 4 real programming language syntax families: Algol derivatives, ML derivatives, LISP derivatives and forth derivatives
(though, some additional, much smaller, families exist, like SQL)

Don't have to trauma dump on us like that, damn.
In any case, don't be discouraged. There exist software development teams where you'd be the guy you're complaining about because competency levels differ per field in programming (e.g. frontend devs are retarded, research-oriented devs are generally smart).

I suppose I am going to write my own UI system for SDL. Everything I am seeing out there are shit heaps trying to shove HTML/CSS into my desktop application or so minimal they only work as a debugging menu. I will report back in 20 years when I figure out how to make my UI render a rectangle that anchors to the side of the screen, and resizes correctly with different resolutions.

I warned the faculty that something like this would happen when we fully switched over to automatic grading systems. At my university, students submit their projects and assignments into premade git repositories, which have a runner which will take a Docker image we created and compile, test, then validate their project automatically. The students never see anything compiled/run on their end, and professors/TAs do not run student code on their machines. Supposedly they switched to this system after a student maliciously attacked a professor's computer with a final project, so they determined the sandboxed automatic grader was the answer.

A huge problem is that the grader script allows for essentially any language to get used. It will identify the language and run the correct steps to build then execute the program. This of course means that every student immediately jumps to only using Python.

have you tried clay? https://github.com/nicbarker/clay
works with SDL2 and SDL3

Don't worry, it gets worse at work.

I think I'm ok with being unemployed now. Just kidding..I regret not majoring in Computer Engineering.
Echo hiding in audio is very difficult to implement because there's A/D conversion, then learning about how different audio signals, wave shapes, and frequency distributions can impact the results. Low frequency (bass/male vocals/etc) as far as I've found causes all bits to flip and thus corrupt whatever data you're trying to embed in the cover audio. The low-frequency sine waves change so slowly that it can fuck up the maths of it all. High frequencies have near-zero bit rate errors, but the trade off is that it's a lot more obvious to detect that there's any hidden data in the cover audio. Pure sine waves found in solo instruments and such produce false positives, Quiet sections like pauses in human speech is a coin flip. It's a pain in the ass and the worst part is I have no one to even fact check my math or code. One guy ghosted and the girl is relying on my work to complete her part. Could ask the professor, but he has been so overwhelmed with the general retardation of students and other group drama that he hasn't had any time + he knows me so he's less concerned. I had to solo my group project with another one of his courses last semester too. They keep flipping my bits!
Yeah, that's a good point. I've met a fair amount of students one semester away from graduation that have no idea what GitHub is.
Maybe the department chair? Ha ha. Just jokes!
That is a fascinating method of auto-grading? I've never heard of that before. Our chair is trying to push my professors to use AI to grade. This is a bad idea because although the students use AI to cheat through the degree, they also get quite angry if you use AI to grade. We have a few graders (both undergrads and grads) that do this and the students are vicious. I've already been messaged by other students who have been asking me if I think the feedback left by their grader is AI-like. Yes it is btw. It's stupid obvious. I just give them the email to our chair and tell them to express themselves!

Our professors used to create their own grading scripts (typically in Bash or Python), but they wrote it themselves to tune it to their respective assignments. A few gave up on them some years ago because they couldn't add enough error trapping for all the dumbfuck mistakes students kept making (zipping the entire directory, various misspellings of their filenames/folders, more zipping of unrelated subdirectories, retarded mac users, etc)

I used to tutor for one course that did implement something similar to your situation though and we saw the same thing. This professor implemented an auto-grader for all assignments, but when it came to the labs they had to use the actual IDE and they had no idea how to do anything. They were used to typing one line of code in some textbox, hitting submit, and watching it get auto-graded.
Fuck Python.

My father says the same sort of shit happens in carpentry. It doesn't really matter what field it is.

I know a woman who works at the local post office and it is clear she does most of the work there.

It's nowhere near as hard as a lot of folks make it out to be. I coded a decent enough little UI library in MacPascal circa 2001 in high school, as a presentation layer for my 3D sphere physics engine. Got a that working and an ordered dither algorithm, mostly without documentation or anything, as a neophyte.

Building UI's isn't hard, it's tedious. Building a UI framework that doesn't make you want to suck start a shotgun while building a "complex" UI is a monumental task.

It's easier to do complex stuff in terminal.
Do you want to switch between terminal and GUI all the time?
Don't know about you, but I hated that shit. Doing most of the work in terminal nowadays.
