FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just wait until they all get cool jobs immediately after graduation but you don't get a single response : ) Not wishing you anything bad, just while you're making shit work, they're exchanging buzzwords with a different retard in the industry linked-in style and setting themselves up for success

Haha I get what you mean, but I haven't seen that happening except with maybe one guy. Funny enough, my complaining is what has helped me the most. Last semester when I had to solo yet another group project, I befriended a student over our mutual hatred of our peers. Thanks to him I'll be playing a role in helping train our cybersec team for competitions, will be meeting a few different professionals he knows, and recently he gave some good advice for my resume/what easy projects employers love to see. I've gotten about two internship offers, one I unfortunately couldn't take due to various reasons; the other I'll have to speak to my own supervisor regarding my hours to see if it'll work. Maybe I will feel such an experience more later on.

The perks of being an autist! I think it's just my school though. Word gets around fast if you're a useless retard. The students who will be employed after graduation have seemed to isolate themselves. If you indirectly prove you're not a useless retard, they notice and reach out.

What’s your guys opinion on using GitHub desktop. I just really hate using the terminal to do set up and basic shit. Am I handicapping myself
The terminal is unironically just easier to use, IME. Because when you get into a fucked up state (which WILL happen eventually) it's much easier to untangle via the CLI.

Also, fuck the github client, just fuck it. I hate it so much. It makes people think that git and github are the same thing. (It also encourages vendor lock-in)

Briefly came into here to subject people to my crash out. I am going to fucking kill myself, I hate this project. I hate group projects.
Sometimes I envy people who don't care - I surely can't do that. So agitated sometimes I am, that I can't work properly.
It's as if some people, with the whole of their being, represent all the nasty things I hate about the industry. The antagonism I feel towards them is almost genetic. If we were to meet a couple of thousand years ago, we'd poke each other with spears.

But I got to admit, though, I am just a different side of the same coin - equally autistic, retarded, and narcissistic. Or maybe even more, who knows?
They beat their meat to the sniny new things, they use AI to write their stuff, and I, on the other hand, do just the opposite.

It was so pleasant to work with the old experienced farts. No arrogance, no reliance on AI, no desire to rewrite the project in a thousand microservices with the different language each, no adoration for "cool" complex shit.
People used to admire simplicity back then.

Currently finishing up testing and documenting all my tests/debugging efforts. The professor seems to be over it. This project went from "make it so good I can show it to future semesters" to "it's graded based on effort, hang in there guys.."

I have never disliked working on a project so much before. Fuck all these retarded soyware engineers that infest my major and can't code in C. All they know is Java and Python. If I have to walk someone through a basic gcc compile one more time I'm going to strangle them. We all took Programming I which was in C. We all took Operating Systems which was in C. We all took Systems Programming which was in C. How the fuck do you not know how to compile a basic fucking C program. I can't even expect ONE person to try and fix some simple fucking bug like a typo. I wrote block_ize instead of block_size and this neanderthal sends me a screenshot saying "I got this error:(" OK. You see that the variable was never declared. Maybe go into the fucking file at the line it has flagged and see that "OH, block_size was declared right above it! But bourne-again put "block_ize"..clearly that's a typo I can fix and push to the repo!" NO!!!!!!!!! THEY CAN'T EVEN DO THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"its not running:(" maybe because as I told you there is a command UNIQUE TO LINUX in there. you have a LINUX machine, why are you running this on WINDOWS when the professor said he can run both WINDOWS AND LINUX? go fuck yourself. i hate these fucking students so much
Recently, I had a project of 2 people (including me) for a student competition with academical vibe. The project was a device with microcontroller inside, so we did hardware, software, PCB design, etc. so basically embedded. It used RP2350 as the MCU and was programmed in bare-metal C with use of various peripherals.

The problem was that my colleague is a normie, who's addicted to AI, with virtually no attention span, and just stupid. Most of the time he did nothing, but when he was actually doing something, he would ask AI to write or fix the code, commit it with useless message "sync" and could even leave retarded AI comments like "// 👈 this is where the shitty magic happens 🔥", the code in the end had different code conventions than the whole code base, so you see that he had no clue what's happening. Sometimes after being told by me to stop using AI, he would actually write code by hand, but it was full of antipatterns, typos in basic english words and other retardisms. He would also annoy me every time by trying to compile project using CMake and forgetting the generation or build command. Nigga, do you know that Ctrl-R exists? Or just write it into a text file? Or read tutorials, documentation and check the CMakeLists file ask AI what the prompt means to help you memorize it better? Ah yes, he actually does know about Ctrl-R, but he's too "lazy"... Once I asked him to write some docs, and later I discovered it's just a verbose AI-generated text with unicode symbols of em dashes...

He went hacker mode after watching Linus Cringe Tips, installed Arch Linux and was accusing Linux (kernel) of everything, but he didn't even know basic commands and syntax in a typical shell, or how a Linux system works. He downloaded some insane-looking shell prompt but still refused to meaningfully engage with the terminal calling it an outdated interface.

In the end, the project did well enough. But it was kind of traumatizing experience. And it will get worse at job, because there instead of 1 such colleague you've got a whole building of them. And it's very likely, because my friend is an example of majority of the modern generation of programmers, that are so stupid that they are literally enslaved by AI and have no sense how to program machines and maintain the code well. I've seen that in job vacancies they literally want you to use code agents, so the product is done as soon as possible. But in this case I had a choice, so it's probably my fault.

Git isn’t hard to learn. Pro Git is free online, and it has a section near the end dedicated to Git’s internals, which will help you a lot when it comes to confidence and mastery.
I regret to inform you that you are not retarded. Git is hard to learn for a lot of people, even students who benefit from using it and are expected to know it after school will often go through their entire program avoiding learning how to use it properly.

Funnily enough, Google doesn't build Chromium on a network filesystem either. They run it on content-addressable storage with remote execution, keyed by content hash so there's no path or stale mtime to get wrong. Google doesn't bother with NFS either for this lol.
I don't suppose they've documented this process anywhere and/or open-sourced any related tools, have they? I'd be interested to see if they've come up with something genuinely novel here or if they're just being fucking morons again.

It's funny to hear Chromium builds have become this bizarre. I was on the CR-48 pilot program (i.e. Chromebook prototype) and I had an otherwise-bored desktop PC compiling the daily bleeding-edge version of ChromeOS every night for me and I updated my CR-48 with it very regularly (and it was trivial, albeit sluggish; I recall it taking about 40 minutes on that PC). In fact the only reason I stopped using that crazy little fucker is they dropped official support for it (as you would expect) and after awhile the build would either no longer fit on the partitions as configured or wouldn't boot on the hardware anymore (I forget which). But I only stopped fucking with it when the code wouldn't run on it anymore.

I am still stuck in the Postgres rabbithole, frens.
Good rabbit hole to be stuck in. PostgreSQL is top-shelf quality as both an RDBMS and as an open-source project. If you've got the head for it, it's a genuinely fun piece of software to play and work with.

The only time it's a real asshole is when dealing with Amazon's bastardized version of it they use for "Aurora RDS" ... how they managed to make it such a nightmare to upgrade their so-called "clusters" while avoiding downtime is something worthy of study. I don't believe an all-Indian team could fuck it up that badly; it took real genius to make something so shitty.

I IMPLORE you, if you can make a dataset just be CSV, please do so. CSV by contrast is the exact opposite of JSON in terms of several of these line items, and it's really trivial to handle and generate.
You should be aware there's probably as many standards/specs for CSV as there are superset variants of JSON (JSONP, JSONC, JSONB, etc.).

Years and years ago when I first started my degree I had to read this guy's Clean Code book for a freshman class.
Those books are only useful for looking good on a shelf and making pointy-haired bosses think you're "one of the good ones" when they visit your office and glance at the shit you have on your bookshelves. The asshole who wrote those never wrote any useful code in his life. He'd shit bricks if he had to try to comprehend the modern/contemporary implementations of something like C's printf() since functions with more than three arguments give him the vapors.

Sorry but I'll use master, slave, whitelist, blacklist and other "problematic" words in my coding vernacular as much as possible.
This is, by far, the most effective way to push back against that horseshit. Just keep on using it. Ignore complaints about it (delete them if possible). Ignore PR's that replace it with "approved" language (close them without merging and without comment if possible). Ban posters of both of these when possible. Further ban people who clamor for change because you're a mean doo-doo head. Don't engage in discussion, debate or argument. Don't name-call. Just silently delete the faggots where you can, and ignore them everywhere else. Their bullshit doesn't get any traction when you don't engage with them.

If you can fire me for refusing, I'll use your funny words if the pay's good enough. But if you're not paying me to write code for you that I won't own when we're done working on it, I will use the terminology I want without exception and no amount of protest will stop me. I'm not putting my name on cucked code. It's funny how often people need reminding "hey, you're not paying for this free software, fuck off if you don't like how I write it."

ETA:
Been hearing more and more greybeards complain about how nobody under 35 knows jack shit about how Linux works lately.
This is exactly how systemd snaked its way into the major distros. Everybody who knew better had already retired or been paid off enough not to care by the time it was too late to do anything to stop it. Every poor motherfucker who ever used pulseaudio knew the moment they saw that faggot's name on systemd it would be an abysmal trash fire, and we were fucking right.

I don't trust the GUI Git tools and do everything manually myself.
Git is dogshit and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise. The fact that everything else is even worse does not change the fact that git is dogshit as well.

It is good enough IMO. Git GUIs are unreliable IME and should not be used.

Almost every successful software project adheres to the 'worse is better' principle:

It is another immutable law of engineering that things that are "good enough" will always win out. So good luck fighting reality.
The fact that everything else is even worse does not change the fact that git is dogshit as well.
Dogshit is overstating it. It is much better than what was typically used before. I had to deal with TFS, Accurev and SourceSafe.

Name one other format I can use to debug dump data from a C program using only trivial printf calls and a pipe
Name ONE

Edit: This is 50% making a point and 50% actually asking

Null separated. (This is how argv[] is structured in Linux.)
Tab separated.
There's a whole list of ASCII < 0x20 that you can use to structure your data output in trivially-parsable ways.

CSV is full of footguns because the separator is commonly seen in strings.

Still way, way in there.

I've been reading about pg-promise and pg-listen for a full-fledged messaging implementation, this is absolutely amazing.

Very cool stuff for sure. Firebase can fuck right off.

Been rubber-ducking some ideas back and forth with Antigravity, this also came up - I thought it was kinda obvious (me, coming from a Sysadmin background):

And an interesting write-up about this.

It would have never occurred to me to run Postgres dockerized... I was under the impression that it should run on bare metal, as God intended.

SVN and Perforce are hell compared to Git. Mercurial was kind of like Git but I think it lost out due to the ubiquity of Git online. I appreciated the fact it didn't bundle up updating and fetching together as git does with pull

Bar separated is slightly better than CSV (not by much though), especially for numeric data since some languages use , as a decimal point, and some free text will use , to divide up thousands.

I used Subversion at a company which, I think, started in the 19th century. Don't need to elaborate any further.

Probably did 2 hours of work a week though. That part was nice.

Why did you appreciate having fewer conveniences in your VCS? Are you banned from using fetch and merge separately?

"Ugh, I hate Git (ugh, I hate even typing that!) for adding this method which combines two frequently used methods. As if!"

I still can't tell if this website is 95% retarded bots or not.
