the forum is often called a "harassment forum". But I was always confused by this because engaging with lolcows directly is explicitly discouraged. Talking about someone is different from talking to them, and only the latter, to me anyway, constitutes harassment. What I see sometimes though are posts of the form, "hey <lolcow>, I know you're reading your thread and you're a fucking <insert epithet>. please do us all a favor and kill yourself." Nothing good comes from these posts. They don't contribute to discussion, and they're easy for lolcows to screencap and post on social media to make the farms look more explicitly like a harassment site. A rule about "not addressing posts to lolcows" could help to mitigate this.

(obviously there should be an exception for cows who make accounts and post in their own threads.)

just a thought.

that's already against the rules.
It may already be against the rules, but I suspect OP is more concerned about said rules are enforced (if at all).

TBH I agree with the OP on this one. It's shit like this that got taken out context and added fuel to the dumpster fire that was the Drop Kiwi Farms campaign.

I don't care if it's fueling anything. Despite everything, I am not interested in concessions or tailoring rules to cause people to react differently. It's a matter of if it's good for the discussion, and it never has been.

I know you've been under pressure recently and I love your work... but I never said anything about tailoring rules or making concessions. As you said yourself, this type of behavior is already against the rules. But are these rules being enforced? If not, why not?

(no I don't expect you or anyone else to have the answer, but I think it's an opportunity for a healthy debate about how existing rules about pozloading the neghole can be used more effectively to mitigate the risk of future attacks from deranged lolcows and/or their followers)

Destiny just posted in his thread again, so I fucking called him out for being the short cuck loser that he is, you think I would let that opportunity slip away? LMAO he is so small

I am smiling just thinking about it. I can't believe that manlet posted again with his verified account, it's been years, he just finished shittalking the farms in his manifesto and he rushed here to his thread to Correct The Record. What a joy.

EDIT: actually it looks like he was pretty active in August trying to define cuckoldry, hadn't even noticed. Stop letting your wife fuck black guys while you stream video games and internet arguments, lol

I understand the sentiment and I do agree with OP's stance on the low-effort posts, but I wonder where the line would be drawn. I admit I'm guilty of referring to the subject as if I'm speaking to them at times (here's an example), but there'd have to be a lot of self-policing to make sure the language doesn't directly address subjects.

there should clearly be exceptions for cows who sign up for the forum and come into their own threads. (I said this in the OP.) I'm more thinking about low effort posts regarding those who don't.

i think something as simple as "Don't address lolcows---you're talking to each other, not them" or something similar in the rules. That combined with the rule against low effort posts should at least put it on people's radars.

i'm not looking to argue with dear leader and i respect the general resistance against policing the forum or caring about what it's fueling. i don't even care if there's a rule against it. it's just a common sort of low effort post i think the forum would be better off without. if some percentage of the 400 or so people who read this OP thought to themselves "hm, not a terrible idea" then i'm satisfied.
