yeah, you can tell it's not a real south park episode because the joke is straight and to the point and doesn't meander for a whole 10 minutes trying to teach a lesson at the end
Yep, I remember seeing this back then, the guy who made it did a good job replicating the style.

This is amazing. First time I've laughed with something Chris related in a long time.
It's nice to have something related to chris that's not just "Yeah, he fucked his mom lmao"
Are there more Chris Chan references in mainstream media besides this and Tucker Carlson? I need more!!!!
The only one I can think of was this reference in the storyboards of a OkKO episode, Theres a entire Cwcki article on Chris in the media, worth a read if you have the time

It's such a shame that this was left on the cutting room floor for that show. But at least we got a funny reference on Smiling friends, After he missed the chance to be the grease puddle in season 1.

No it's awful. It's good if you're 7 years old but now even if it's fascinating someone who has been actively practicing drawing for years should not draw like that.
Chris has 100% "Improved" It's just.. Not that obvious. He has a basic understanding of scale and proportions now, but he never really bothered to learn anything besides that.

Chris is mostly referenced in various vlogs and podcasts, though some are reasonably famous. As for traditional media, he sometimes made the news - he was covered locally for winning the Sonic contest in 1994, and for the house fire, and the incest arrest made the news all over the place. He wrote letters to his local paper and to Nintendo Power.

One notable mention was a Sonic Boom episode in which he was parodied as Mark the Tapir. His artwork was featured in a Slylock Fox strip, misattributing his age as 9, not 29. At a WWE event, Cody Rhodes read a sign outloud from a fan reading "Christine Chandler loves Barb!"

For a comprehensive list, here's the link.

I've seen screencaps of what looks like Chris Chan, and perhaps Bob and Barb behind him, in an episode of My Little Pony
Usually references in that show really stick out even if you don't watch it because the background incidental ponies just have generic colorful designs and no clothing, so anything that breaks that mold immediately jumps out at you as being unusual and intentional

It doesn't look like a specific shirt he's worn as far as I can tell but you can see that direct contrast from all the basic ponies around them.

It must take something other than extreme autism to be drawing for 20+ years and still not get past this 2nd grader level. Makes me think of this guy who could never live on his own, yet he and his family have this successful little business having him draw.

It must take something other than extreme autism
If anything, this is usually not the case with autists, they're so fixated on their interests that they end up improving due to sheer autistic dedication
Unless what they're doing isn't a passion for them, which is what I worry is the case here, Chris may have loved making comics at one point but he has lost that desire and has not improved since as a result

Why does the lamp plug in to the computer?
Probably some sort of cheap, aliexpress-bought usb lamp.

It always felt to me that his "art" wasn't really born out of any appreciation to the medium itself, it's just a way for him to express his appreciation to the particular intellectual properties he's enjoying in that moment, was he ever that big into comics? Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the first things he drew illustrations for his wall of originals yugioh cards? Also it feels like even since Sonichu #0 his real dream was making some sort of sonichu videogame, rather than a comic, which was his only way of getting the ball rolling for him at the time.

edit: spelling
