And the sad part is that Barb will never admit it. As much as everything that's happened in Chris's life, Borb got dragged into it, and Barb in particular started feeding into Chris' paranoia and sucking from his welfare at the same time. I wonder if Bob ever thought of getting a divorce from Barb and left with Chris somewhere else? Obviously, Barb would take her husband to court and argue that he is the unfit parent (as Barb usually does), and keep Chris and 14 BLC with child support payments, which is what she has now. The only thing that would change is probably Bob staying alive, but living somewhere else.

Bob had already gone through one divorce and for a lot of Chris’s childhood they were separated. In his mind it was sort of “Well what’s the point? Just let me die in peace”. Now how his son screaming at a camera and destroying his own property translates to “in peace” is questionable but I think Bob legitimately quit caring unless he was directly impacted after Barb came back into the picture and started making changes to the day to day operations. Every night Bob used to like to sit and watch old comedies or listen to his jazz records and Barb put a stop to the latter because the noise interfered with whatever she was watching. They practically lived in separate rooms and pretty much only spoke when it came to finances or Chris. She did watch a few old shows with him sometimes like Gilligans Island or I Love Lucy, but mostly just ignored each other.

I knew of them sleeping in separate rooms, but I didn't know the disconnect was that much. And of course Barb had to put a stop to whatever Bob was doing because it interfered with her personal time.

I wonder if Barb had actually raised a daughter? I mean her parenting skills is what left us with who we are watching now.

So if Bob and Barb slept in separate rooms that makes it a million times creepier (to me, at least) that she wanted Chris to sleep in her bed/cuddle her. That means it wasn't "Your father is dead and I miss sleeping next to someone/having contact/cuddling/whatever" it was almost like she had to lure him into it. I'm going to have trouble sleeping later after thinking about that...

I think when Chris and Bob were away those few years she might of had a weekday lover on the side its only when she retired or when Chris graduated from high school the hoard started up.

Oh it’s creepy as shit for sure. I think it was Bob who got tired of sleeping with Barb though and she kinda knew as much. Chris seems to be more there as a security blanket than anything.

Bob really wasn’t that attracted to Barb. I mean sure they were both drunks but were also kind of cut from a different cloth. Bob came from kind of a respectable family, with good morals and throughout his life he was a religious, charitable, and educated man. Sure he liked the sauce, and he absolutely did hold some views we’d see as bigoted today, but he wasn’t a bad person. Was he neglectful? Yes, absolutely. That’s also partly to do with his age and his upbringing though. He was not equipped to deal with a special needs child in any way. That still doesn’t even make him a bad person, maybe not even a bad parent, just ignorant and lethargic.

Barb was always kind of trash, look at Coles various fathers. She had a history of trying to scam people, and in a way her biggest heist was Bob. She got two houses and part of his pension out of him. Bob had been charging Chris part of the tugboat for rent, Barb upped it. I would say 5 years at most. I'd be very surprised if she lived to her mid 90s.

I’ve heard the theory floated that it was trolls who put Chris up to going to the Game Place. Maybe it’s true, but I could see it also being Barb looking for some way to sue them blind for discrimination against her mentally disabled, Tomgirl son.

Chris said it was some guy who was a pedophile and then suspected Snyder was also a pedophile by association. No idea if that was false information he was fed or if it was legit but I lean towards the former because Chris was so willing to believe virtually anything that validated him.

Nah, if any of his kids fully cut all ties, it would be Carol. We know next to nothing about her, but she did not show up to his funeral and Chris has never even seen her. It's possible she cut all ties with Bob or they could've just been estranged due to extreme geographic distance.

We don't even know if Carol lives in the same state as the Chandlers, while David still remained in Virginia.

I think Bob and David still had a relationship, but it was definitely strained over the years. David did see Chris a few times when he was a kid, and he showed up to Bob's funeral. If he really cut all ties, he would've likely just stayed home.

Quite honestly, I think Barb probably had a lot more to do with that than Bob did. Barb really is a toxic person, to the point that even among her white trash family, she's the black sheep.

For all we know, he may have occasionally talked to Bob over the phone every now and then, but wouldn't really want to visit in person because of Barb and possibly Chris.

I honestly think Bob was a well-intended but incompetent parent, and a lot of the things that he gets flak over like putting Chris on the tugboat are really A-Loggy overreactions most of the time.

Bob put Chris on the tugboat after he got fired from Wendy's in less than a month and flunked out of PVCC.

At that point, I think Bob knew Chris was a lost cause and signed him up on Social Security so at least he'd have a safety net of some sort.

Really, the worst things Bob did as a parent were insisting on mainstreaming Chris and deciding to stay with Barb after Chris graduated.

However, just like his days in PVCC, Chris hasn't gotten a grasp - and still hasn't - of how the world works. There are ways for him to still work while keeping the tugboat, but I guess bob didn't want to go through the effort and Chris was too lazy.
