i've been watching ratboy genius for years and i still can't tell if it's supposed to be strange on purpose or if it was created by an alien

YES. This shit is the best. There is just such an air of naivety in his videos, and the music is legitimately great. It feels like a saturday morning cartoon. I find it great how this started out as him making videos for kids, and then he just totally embraced the fandom. This video is the best in my opinion.

oddball art direction and characters aside the dude's a pretty damn good composer.

Hate to necro a thread but really, Ryan Dorin is a genius. He's one of the nicest creators I've seen (and talked to!) on YouTube, and his animations, while stylistically crude, have amazing music and memorable characters.

To have something so inherently sincere and utterly free of the attitude of jaded postmodern nihilism seemingly endemic in cultural works today is incredible. But don't take it from me.
