Infected RationalWiki - Whiny hugbox for spergs and a clusterfuck of neverending drama on a rapidly declining website.

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
So he's putting together a list of old memes that nobody uses any more. I only see the parentheses things these days from people making fun of them. Also nothing but the google thing ever caught on.

That's not really true. "Google" gets used a fair bit, as do "14/88" and "regressive left". "Remove kebab" and "Deus vult" see some use in the Paradox games community, but not among actual Nazis.

Well in fairness, they're actually somewhat right, IQ only tends to measure specific types of intelligence related to problem solving, but not emotional intelligence or creativity, not to mention sanity.

Which is why you can wind up with virginal spergs like Ryulong who were apparently mentally functional enough to graduate college but socially inept enough that they spend years of their life edit warring on wikis over Power Rangers spellings and GamerGate.

Or why folks like Andrew Schlafly from Conservpedia (who apparently is a Harvard graduate in engineering) end up believing completely crazy stuff such as that Einstein's theory of relativity is part of some "liberal conspiracy to explain away God".

I don't think we have any confirmed proof of Ryulong's degree, or where he got it from, but I might be wrong. He certainly doesn't seem to show massive knowledge of marine biology, and that's not what his Wikipedia edits are about.

Autistic savants exist, but I don't think Ryulong's one of them. Andy Schlafly is a better example, since he's so blinded by his ideology he'll try to warp reality to suit it.

David Gerard is still wanking about Gamergate.

@GethN7

It's downright pathetic what happened to that site. You can still see remnants of what they used to be if you look at the old articles before they went full SJW, but everything after that was less "let's debunk scam medicines and pseudoscience" and much more about "let's virtue signal and autistically screech about GamerGate and Orange Hitler".

And that is mostly down to Gerard himself. A lot of the original RW content on debunking internet woo is actually very good. But then Gerard drove the site into an abyss by giving fuckheads like Ryulong a safe home (at least for a while).

And if that's what he wants to do, he's welcome to that tire fire.

I just plan to laugh at the people who continue to take it seriously, because even if you wanted to save the good stuff, you'd have to take an axe to a shitload on BS, and while I once toyed with the idea of forking it, those thoughts have died a slow death long before now and now all I want to do is watch what had aspirations of being a good idea be consumed in the conflagration of its own autism.

And of course Gerard is defending it. You don't get to take credit for acting two weeks after someone else discovered a security breach that happened on your watch 4 months ago. That's not how being a responsible server admin works. And since Trent Toulouse hasn't lifted a finger to do anything for the site in years, this is on Gerard. It's nobody's fault but his that he's incompetent and supremely lazy, although I guess they could blame Toulouse for not removing his sudo access a long time ago. He doesn't know Apache/Nginx, he definitely doesn't know php enough to handle RW's custom extensions and perform a simple upgrade, and he most certainly doesn't have good enough judgment to be trusted with even simple tasks like typing "sudo apt-get upgrade". It's no surprise he's surrounded himself with fawning dopes like Fuzzy Cat Potato. It just feels better when people who don't know better or care about anything but puffing themselves up blow smoke up your ass, eh?

And lol Reverend Black Percy and others insisting SSL isn't implicated. Here's the deal guys: your server was compromised; you can hand wave away the risk, but t's just plain silly to ask people to change their passwords using an insecure connection when they've got no reason to trust you. Why? David Gerard and Trent Toulouse ran the site for years using software with serious vulnerabilities openly identified on the MediaWiki developer site. All they can say for months is SSL is coming soon when it doesn't take a competent admin more than a few minutes to install the certificate.

Even though I quit something like 6 years ago, I have to admit I'm still disappointed to see how far things have slipped. This is sad, but somehow unsurprising.

yyyyyep

fawning dopes like Fuzzy Cat Potato

hey whoa

how far things have slipped

for the first time in 4 years (!), everything is updated and legal docs are filed. hooray. the hacking itself was possible since 2007, since it was most likely php exploits in a drunken-college-Trent custom extension

if any of you have accounts on rationalwiki and were dumb enough to use your real email and your usual password, check http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Ration...quantitatively.2C_was_the_password_hashing.3F + https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:User_table#user_password to see how fucked you are
