Let's see... I'm going to avoid obviously answers like Witcher 3, Fallout 4, and MGS5. Also, some of these also fall into the 7th generation, but...
Just Cause 3 - This game is all about constantly moving, never touching the ground, and blowing up everything. Suffers from some framerate issues and the plot is mediocre, but everything else feels great.
Dying Light - The little game that could. Made by the people who made the Dead Island games, this game has no right to be as fun as it is. Only downside is the early game learning curve - also if you're easily affected by heights, this game might fuck with you. Also, running through the game at night is a fucking tense ordeal, even when you hit level cap.
Killer Instinct - Going to agree with
@niggers here - I got into the game about midway through the second season, and the gameplay is tight and rewarding. Plus if you're on an Xbone, you can usually snag an entire season's worth of content for like $5 when they go on sale.
Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments - This is an odd one to include, but I am since I grew up on point and click adventure titles, and I really like the attention of detail this middleware company (Frogwares) put into this game. It's not an especially hard game, but it is entertaining all the same, esp. if you are a wonk for Sherlock Holmes era mythos.
Hitman - Still not fully out yet, but my God am I having fun with this game. iO Interactive went back to basics with this one and got rid of so much of the rubbish that was in Absolution. This is a game that demands you to be sneaky and methodical in your approach. The AI can be daft at times, but being able to achieve a silent assassin rating is just as rewarding as it was waaay back with
Blood Money and
Contracts.
Wolfenstein: The New Order - Agreeing with
@Anchuent Christory - this game is back to basics shooting. No self-healing, no cowering, no relenting - this is classic FPS gameplay with a beautiful coat of paint. Plus this is the first time the BJ Blazkowicz - aka- Death Incarnate wrapped in flesh - feels like an actual fleshed out character. The final boss is a cheap motherfucker, but otherwise, if you have a taste for decimating clockwork Nazis while dual wielding shotguns the size of industrial vacuum cleaners, this is the game you must play.
Plenty of other games out there, but those are the ones I can think of from the top my head. Happy gaming.
