Worked out pretty well for Europe didn't it?

Being punk is when billion dollar industries put you as the most popular thing in the world. It's taking space and demanding respect because pop culture is radical and transgressive.
Punk died in the 2000s. The final stage of punk was pop punk because it was self aware about fucking around and having fun. It was childish, but it was just dudes being dudes for the most part. Bands like Blink 182 and Bowling for soup took the concept of punk and made it a joke. When your "outsider" movement becomes main stream the only option left to rebel against it is to laugh at it and how dumb it's become. Punk was never truly outsider music, it was edgy counter culture at best any way. Wear something edgy and make Granny complain music.
punk was born dead, at least to its own standards since it was used as a marketing gimmick and just another fashion fad from the very start. Already in the 80s there was a thing like post-punk and it was essentially just another form of pop music.

At least the 2000s pop punk bands were actually fun teen boy music instead of whiny vegans singing about drinking soy. The "hardcore" scene ended up being lamer and gayer than the mainstream pop version.
Punk rock got hollowed out and co-opted by the left like 20+ years ago during the "Rock against Bush" crap. It always leaned left going back to Thatcher and Reagan but there was some political diversity and RW punk bands. Most bands didn't give a fuck about politics either back then which was based. The same isn't really true now punk is quite political. It's actually weirdly similar to what happened to Anonymous where a group that was mainly about trolling and pissing people off got taken over by do gooders who wanted to make it into a social justice cause. It's just a shambling corpse with a Mohawk and a black lives matter t-shirt at this point. Anything that made it originally shocking or edgy is long, long gone. "Fuck the system man!" has now turned into YOU SHALL NOT BE SEXIST, YOU SHALL NOT BE RACIST, YOU SHALL NOT BE FATPHOBIC

Reddit punks are especially insufferable because its compensation for being a nerdy skinny wristed weakling. They want to be cool and edgy with none of the work so they put a couple patches on a denim jacket (mass produced and made with child slave labor) and wear a black baseball cap. It's just a way to justify being violently hyper political.
Oh, its also because they fear being old and lame like their conservative boomer parents but they fail to realize the Bush era is over and playing punk in your early 30s is really fucking lame.

Punk was already dead in the 70s. Sex pistols were brought together by some marketing guy. From that point onward it was already as subversive as buying a che guavarra Tshirt at the mall.

Punch as you said didn't really have a proper political meaning behind it. There was hardcore fascist punks as well as hippy punks. It was all about trying to be different, it's a version of being a goth. Dress like a twat and listen to dreadful music.

Punk is Dad rock now and that makes me cool when I listen to it. Just like 1985..

Was it ever alive if you take it at face value? Did it ever really rebel or did it put safety pins in jackets and get silly hair cuts?

It's actually comical just how manufactured the Pistols were. The name of the band, the name "Sid vicious", the entire look for the band and the publicity stunts that got them press were all planned by Malcolm McLaren who was a wealthy entrepreneur and about as unpunk as you could get. None of it was organic. The famous moment where they played "Anarchy in the UK" outside of parliament was also planned by the manager and aided by their record company Virgin records who lent them a boat. The American hardcore punk bands of the 80s that came after like black flag and minor threat were far more punk then the pistols ever were.

Oh and also Malcolm McLaren was from a wealthy diamond Sephardic Jewish family.

You had the underground scene. But by the time the general public knew what punk was, and gave it the name, it already lost its edge. It's like hipsters. They want to be differentTM. If they can be put in a category, they're no longer different. And then their style gets packaged and turned into something you can sell.

I always liked this picture/text. It is a reasonably good description of a subset of nerd culture that ended up getting overrun by normalfags. But it can be applied to any subcultures. By the time mainstream becomes aware of it, it already is dead. The normies are just sightseeing the ruins of what was. At the end of the tour they're sold trinkets at the souvenir shop of what was.

That is one of gayest things I've ever read.

Anime is a commercial product. Losers liking anime doesn't make it any less of a mainstream commercial product. It's not a unique culture, it's just consumerism.

The size, contents, target audience and level of commercialization are way different to what it's now. Punk also had people pay to go to concerts. But it's subculture was entirely different to what it became.

so is music
And?

Warhammer, anime, DnD, Horror movies, Video games. All of it has these idiots who think they had a unique and special hobby until "the normies ruined it". When all of them were buying mass produced commercial garbage and calling it a life style. They ever never underground things. They were always mainstream and they can't admit it to themselves.

No, it isn't. Astro boy is considered the first anime and it was mainstream and had toys and action figures to go along with it. Anime has always been a mainstream thing in Japan. Losers obsessively living their lives through it at mocked because they're losers. They think it makes their interest niche and it doesn't. It's just losers being losers and trying to justify why they're better than other people.

This just in: Liteally anything you could ever buy at a store and enjoy is mainstream. ANYTHING.

Mexico is browner than America and they have a woman president (a Jewess, even). Yes, she allegedly won by having opponents assassinated, and is allegedly corrupt, but that isn't too different from American politicians.
So pretty much exactly what I said about the governor of Virginia being the only one who might win since she's a literal kike glownigger.
