Return to Monkey Island

Unfortunately Lucasfilm is still owned by Disney, so there's a chance it will be woke. Place your bets now on whether we'll get a lecture on privelege from the Voodoo Lady, a trooned out LeChuck (that could actually be funny if done right) or Elaine insisting on an open marriage.

Animation looks low-rent so far. Music sounds great though.

Hmm.. as a big fan of Monkey Island fan... in the one hand it's Ron Gilbert.. but in the other.. It's Disney. So yeah, I try to keep my excitement at bay. I do wish it wouldn't look like a game made in flash. Call me old school, but I really like the slightly pixelated look of the original 2 parts. Part of the charm I guess.

I just saw this and got super happy, and then you have to ruin it with your realism.

God I hope they keep it neutral. Just an interesting, child friendly pirate story with some laughs and clever puzzles. Can't be that hard, can it? :(

We kind of have to face the facts that a lot of the people that created stuff we like, whether games, movies, comics etc, are pretty woke/pozzed, whether as true believers or just trying not to get cancelled.

LucasArts was based near San Fran, so it's not so unexpected really.

Wow, I think this is great news, I was very impressed with Ron Gilbert's Thimbleweed Park, the idea of him returning to Monkey island is a dream come true.

I see no reason to cynically assume this is going to be Woke to the level that will be truly detrimental to the game, I trust Ron considering how good Thimbleweed Park was.

A question on my mind though is continuity, is it going to ignore the Telltale games or anything after Lucasarts?

Oh, I agree with you fully. You just thought of it before it dawned on me, and RUINED MY FUN. But you're right. Though as @Dom Cruise said, there's also a chance it will be a neutral, good game. I will just hope for the best, pirate it day one (if possible) and try it out, or otherwise just wait until it's out a few weeks to read trusted reviews and then decide if it's worth spending my money on.

Pirating a game about pirates? I can appreciate that.

I dunno, I'm optimistic. DoubleFine made a remarkably bland adventure game recently that didn't seem to have any lecturing. Did Thimbleweed Park have anything? Setting seemed uninteresting so I never gave it a fair shake.

Presumably it's mostly the same team and hopefully Ron is old enough to care about making a lasting experience over scoring cocktail party woke points.

With the takes in this thread you'd think the Life is Strange developers just got the license.

Imagine if it was instead titled Return to Monke Island.

Thimbleweed Park is great, if you like this type of game it's a must play.

Yeah, people are way overreacting to assume it's going to be Woke.

I just went through his Twitter a bit. Nothing insane, he's just an old adventure game boomer posting. This is gonna be great.

A bit unrelated (maybe?), but Mark Ferrari was the artist on Thimbleweed park and many Scumm games back in the day. He has a great talk where he goes into pixel art and some details on how he did the well known animated pixel art screensavers. Worth a watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMcJ1Jvtef0

Hope he's involved.

No, not at all. It's just a fun game without any woke crap. So we can be optimistic...although I was a bit worried about this pronoun lady working on the game:

But she ist only posting pictures of animals, nature & other normal stuff as far as I can see. At least she knows how to tweet like a sane person.
