At long last the British far left's dream has come to pass, as Margeret Thatcher is now dead

Honestly I dunno how to react since she was before my time. On the one hand she did plenty of damaging shit but on the other hand her haters are some of the most godawful hypocritical, hateful, and self righteous pricks in this hemisphere.

Fuck Thatcher, she will rot in hell. According to her, Nelson Mandela was a terrorist. I guess many posters here are from across the water, so here is what Gerry Adams had to say about her today to have some looking up, but feel free if you don't believe it.

“Margaret Thatcher did great hurt to the Irish and British people during her time as British Prime Minister.

Working class communities were devastated in Britain because of her policies.
Her role in international affairs was equally belligerent whether in support of the Chilean dictator Pinochet, her opposition to sanctions against apartheid South Africa; and her support for the Khmer Rouge.

Here in Ireland her espousal of old draconian militaristic policies prolonged the war and caused great suffering. She embraced censorship, collusion and the killing of citizens by covert operations, including the targeting of solicitors like Pat Finucane, alongside more open military operations and refused to recognise the rights of citizens to vote for parties of their choice.

Her failed efforts to criminalise the republican struggle and the political prisoners is part of her legacy.

It should be noted that in complete contradiction of her public posturing, she authorised a back channel of communications with the Sinn Féin leadership but failed to act on the logic of this.

Unfortunately she was faced with weak Irish governments who failed to oppose her securocrat agenda or to enlist international support in defence of citizens in the north.

Margaret Thatcher will be especially remembered for her shameful role during the epic hunger strikes of 1980 and 81.

Her Irish policy failed miserably.

^ While I have nothing but extreme contempt for Addams and the IRA (though I feel the same about pretty much every player in the troubles from the Government to Gadaffi) you are indeed right about Thatch's nigh sociopathic support of violent/genocidal/genocidally violent regimes so long as they professed the right anti communist rhetoric and happily sold out those who opposed said regimes.

Personally however I would say her gutting of the poorest members of society to save spare change is probably her nastiest direct legacy since just about all the social problems the UK has faced since then were caused, amplified or increased by this.

Thats fair enough! Although she does have many more haters in the other hemisphere... just look to Argentina, South Africa and Chile! I've never seen so much celebration that is being planned tonight for someones death.. I've been anticipating this one for quite a while, cracked the beers already!

Let's not forget her policies are directly responsible for causing the housing crisis, denationalised utilities and public transport and engineered the current double dip recession her successors are failing to remedy.

I don't drink due to a medical condition so have one for me.
