James Leavelle, the keyboard player in my profile pic, died on Wednesday at the ripe old age of 99. Dude survived Pearl Harbor and made his bones as a homicide detective on the mean streets of Dallas, only to have his greatest failure--the murder of a prisoner under his care--captured on film. He stayed with the squad for another 13 years, then founded a successful polygraph business. James Leavelle was a badass, and he had a better run than most of us ever will.

I must have read literally dozens of this guy's Doctor Who novelizations, although most of his episodes were back during Patrick Troughton's reign, with only a couple in Tom Baker's run.
Thinking back, I loved Doctor Who when I was a kid, but this was when very few of the stories were available on video, so my primary medium of engagement was those Target novels. And Terrance must have written easily half of them. Also his surname was Dicks lol .RIP

Honestly, it is probably a bit of a relief for his parents.
Yeah, his poor elderly parents were taking care of him, and he was a handful. I love his music and art, and that along with the care his folks provided kept him out of an institution full-time. It's a sad day :heart-empty:

This is honestly one of the first deaths in a while that I've been really broken up over. He had a sincerity in his art and music that's really hard to come by, while also being comforting and inspiring at the same time. Though I will admit he teetered on the edge of cowdom, while also being endearing because of it.

I also highly recommend The Devil and Daniel Johnston if you want an overview of his life.

RIP Dynastia's avatar. I didn't always care about Dynastia's posts, but that image always cheered me up when I saw it.
