The Oscars have a very long history of giving an actor the award for the wrong film. Everyone from Bette Davis, Kate Winslet and Julianne Moore, to Russell Crowe, Paul Newman and Jack Lemmon, have gotten the award not for the films people remember them for, but some lesser movie no one cares about. But the consensus is it's time for them to win, or that they were great in something recently but missed out, so they win for a film no one cares about rather than one that lives on.
People can disagree and say that Lillies of the Field was not a good movie, but they can not deny that he broke ground with wanting to be much more than just a black face.
I play this every time I need motivation in life. Thanks, Sidney.
I also can’t forget that he was in The Jackal, too. Great action movie.Which is a long way of saying RIP, Sidney Poitier. You were great in a lot of very good films, though personally I'll always have a deep fondness for Sneakers above all the others.
And let's not forget his performance in the movie "In the Heat of the Night", a movie who'll later be adapted into a tv series starring Archie Bunker aka Carroll O'Connor.

Same thing with Denzel. I LOVE Training Day, but that was not where he should have gotten his Oscar. Then again, Halle Berry won that year too, so they were clearly making a statement even pre-woke everything. The Oscars have a very long history of giving an actor the award for the wrong film.
