RIP Thread

William Friedkin, prolific director known for a variety of movies including The Exorcist and The French Connection, has passed away at the age of 87.
These two gentlemen are the perfect example of real and skilled talent that just can not be replicated. Between these two and Alan Arkin, it’s just proof that more from the Golden Age of Hollywood will be gone sooner than we think.

If anyone here hasn't seen Killer Joe, I highly recommend you do so. It's the film that won me over with Matthew McConaughey. One of the greatest pitch black comedies of the 2010s.

I saw the ending scene out of context of the rest of the movie and fucking wew lad. Absolutely harrowing, I still haven't seen the rest of the movie, but it cements Friedkin in his legacy just on that alone.

I'd still watch it even if you were kinda spoiled it. It's intense as shit but goddamn it's one of my favorite movies of the 2010s for a reason. Let me know when you finish it all the way through.

I logged in just to see if anyone had posted this. Very sad, but I also got a bad feeling from it. It's utterly tragic whenever a child passes away, but because Lil Tay was basically a celeb, I have to wonder if there was anything extra sinister behind her death. (inb4 I get called MATI for going conspiracy mode. I can't help it though, especially when child stars die under strange circumstances). Also, iirc, there was some weird drama a few years back about how Tay was being controlled by her family on camera or something like that? I will try to dig around and link it here if I find anything relevant.

Here is the full statement from her Instagram:

I can't get an archive of the post because my ad blockers won't let me access Instagram. Might be a good idea to grab one.

Robbie Robertson, primary composer and guitarist for The Band, passed away at 80. The Band morphed from a Canadian rockabilly group to the backing band for Bob Dylan's first electric tour and then turned out what can only be described as roots rock merged with R&B and folk from which americana would heavily borrow. Critically acclaimed though their debut albums were and are, their biggest legacy might by the Scorsese directed Last Waltz, pretty much the ultimate concert movie (and one that would definitively separate Robertson, here the main focal point instead of the three lead singers, from the group). Check out King Harvest Has Surely Come (there is excellent live studio footage) for a sample of his subtle guitar accents blending with the groove and weirdness of the other musicians.

They are discussing Lil Tay in this thread.

Things have come out that the police have no history of them even knowing they were dead.
Well this is awkward.
