RIP Thread

he was really good in The Whole Nine Yards
That movie was so unrealistic.

It expected me to believe that there could be not one but two Sûreté du Québec (the Quebec provincial police force) officers who speak perfect English.

Anyway, RIP Matthew Perry. He was at least half a decade younger than I thought he was.

Hmmn...

Matthew Perry has reportedly passed away at the age of 54 after drowning in his hot tub.

Perry was best known for his role on the popular TV comedy 'Friends,' as well as voicing the character Benny in the hit video game 'Fallout: New Vegas'
Per TMZ, he went out Whitney Houston (and Bobby Kristina) style, in his hot tub. According to them, police said no signs of foul play. That honestly sucks, I grew up watching Friends and always hoped he would overcome his well-known and self- acknowledged struggles. And say what you will about TMZ, despite them being the epitome of meaningless celebrity worship journoscum, they're usually the first and most accurate when it comes to reporting on notable deaths. They broke the news on Kobe, MJ and others hours before most other sources did.

Freak accident?
Adam Johnson, originally from Minnesota in the US, died after appearing to suffer a catastrophic cut to his neck from a blade during the match at Sheffield arena.
“The Sheffield player clearly got knocked off his feet and his skate when up and slit [the other player’s] throat.

“I’ve never seen that amount of blood come out of anyone at any sort of pace. It is one of the grimmest things I’ve ever seen at a sports event.”
:O Holy shit

There were around 8,000 people watching, some of them children. “It was an absolute family atmosphere… everyone was crying,”
Damn...

Damn...
A Notts player knocked Matt Petgrave off his feet, and Johnson was behind him. He tried to skate away but stumbled and was held up by the ref before dropping back onto the ice. Like it says...complete freak accident. I bet Petgrave is in absolute pieces.
Everyone was asked to leave the arena, but wait in their cars so the ambulance could get through.
Just horrific all round.
There's a petition started now for neck protection to be mandatory, which is unsurprising really, and all Sheffield games are cancelled today, not sure about the rest of the league.

“Neck protection”
I hope they don’t cave to this, imagine them all skating around with pillows on their necks.

It’s actually happened before, someone getting his throat slashed by skate, but the player survived, there’s a video of it online somewhere, they are right though, it was an insane amount of blood……..

It's stupid that players don't wear them. When I was a kid it was mandatory that we wore them during organized hockey and they were absolutely no big deal nor were they obstructive. I don't really care if they make them mandatory or not, but I think it's retarded not to wear one if you're out playing with others.

The problem with TMZ isn't that they aren't reliable, because 99% of the time they are. It's that they aren't at all ethical when it comes to getting a scoop.

It would either be similar to a goalie's neck guard or a turtleneck. Calm down.

It was Clint malarchuk, playing for the Sabres at the time. So it's happened twice, one lived, one died. It's still something that should be considered, especially seeing as the neck and throat is the only area that isn't protected, and it's probably the most vulnerable area on the body. Especially when you're flying about with knives on your feet.

Sheffield Wednesday had a minutes silence and played montage footage of him today before kick-off. Hockey isn't nearly as big a thing over here, so it's nice to see other sports showing their support and respect.

Speaking of the Sabres, it also happened in 2008 when Richard Zednik of the Florida Panthers had his neck cut open by his own teammate while playing Buffalo.
An interesting side story to the whole thing: This happening is what prompted Malarchuk to attempt suicide after being (understandably) fucked up about the whole ordeal for years. It didn't take and he ended up with a round stuck in his head, but he wrote a book and his ted talk about all of it is worth a listen. Hope he's in a better place for the news of this one than he was then.

If it was a simple case of getting knocked down why did he kick his leg in such a manner?
To me it looks like he knew he was going down and was trying to kick to trip another player to keep him from making a play, and the man lost his life because of it. The way his leg bends and extends as he's going down doesn't make sense by simple momentum of losing his footing.
