Thanks for forcing me to spend an hour watching one of the greatest boxing matches. Again.

As a side note, I wouldn't say Foreman took Ali to the limit in this fight. Ali deployed his infamous "rope-a-dope" technique here, and let George wear himself out. They're both absolute legends. It makes me think though, what I would give to see a prime 1966 Ali vs. 1986 Tyson in a match up. It would be one for the ages.
I think prime Tyson would of roasted Ali with body shots if he tried to wear him out with the RaD tek. Mike was one of the few HW champs to really use the sweet science to set up that perfect uppercut, classic 1-2 for him was LBH - RU and would just decapitate very elusive contenders like clockwork. But Ali was Ali, so he could've made a fool of Iron Mike, but I'd for sure bet on Tyson.

Ali wouldn't have tried that with him. He specifically came up with it as a strategy against Foreman.

It also wasn't some off-the-cuff "oh yeah I'll just let him beat the shit out of me until he punches himself out" thing. He spent his entire training period focusing on it. If there were a Rocky-style training montage of it, it would be just his sparring partner beating the everloving shit out of him for weeks because he was training for exactly that.

TBH I was completely unaware of that. He did continue(?) to use that style against Dokes and did the iconic ~20 punch bob and slip in like 10 seconds with taunt to cap it off.

Friendly reminder that this is an RIP thread, not boxing thread. 😘

We should really have an 'in memoriam" thread that links to "announcement" posts here for in-depth discussion or other condolences posts. Or, maybe that too much work. Or, maybe I should shut up.

(Yeah yeah, I know this isn't a meta thread, either; I'll go chastise myself in a bit and try not to enjoy it this time.)
