RIP John C. Dvorak, No Agenda show host and columnist.

This made me sad. I have a backlog of a few episodes to listen to and John is the highlight of the show for me. Now I know after the few episodes I have left it just won't be the same.

Just last week he made me chuckle in the crew lounge while I was doing paperwork and prompted me to "hit someone in the mouth" (told the guy sitting across from me about the show when he asked what I was listening to).

John C. Dvorak
He got no spam
#ITM

I remember his articles in PC Magazine and that ran every other week? Jokes about some of his predictions that didn't land aside (eg the mouse will never catch on), he had a strong voice and generally saw through bullshit. I think he got the hammer from his last regular writing gig for coming out against 5G? Which... Some would say was crack pot, and some would say the jury is still out. But boy, did Qualcomm and the other advertisers not like it.

I followed him across the nascent podcasts as well after techtv- Mevio is how he met Adam, and the rest was history. His tech5 podcast on mevio was great. And let us also remember the Tech Grouch:

Description of how he went. Can happen to anyone I suppose, brain hemorrhage or heart failure.

Creepy foreshadowing I guess:

Pioneering female scuba diver, underwater photographer, and actress Zale Perry passed away on July 20th at the age of 93. She appeared in TV shows like "Kingdom of the Sea", "Sea Hunt", and "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea", as well as "Wagon Train" and "Peter Gunn". In 1957 she doubled for Sophia Loren in the underwater scenes for "Boy on a Dolphin".

She aged very well. Another pioneer resting in Heaven.

RIP Jordan! Never was a KC fan (Go Lions!), but you certainly left Earth way too soon and prayers go out to your family.

A [redacted] page has been created to help the family

I think I said something about this before in this thread (or the Grinds My Gears one), but can we (humans, not KFers) knock this shit off?

For one, a former NFL player shouldn't need to take donations for future expenses. They're the 1% of the 1% of the 1% at what they do in one of the world's biggest professional sports organizations and should be compensated accordingly.

Separately, I feel like Big Media is just injecting this into every obit via some backroom agreement with crowd-funding platforms, setting up shell accounts to collect funds (not hard to automate, though finding legit names of relatives might be tough), and either keeps it or turns the funds over if an actual family member makes a stink about it.

This Fox affiliate is owned by NextStar Media Group, which is large enough to be publicly traded, so do with that what you will.

when i read this thread i would mentally think "i don't care" about like sports people and stuff but that was rude so now i think "rip unless you were a sicko"

It's amazing how many people are shocked that people don't respond well to being essentially told "you are awful and shouldn't be allowed to have children, just because you're you, just go die plz," and it's doubly amazing how they're further shocked that the genuine response to that hateful message is "you first, asshole." Like ... it's just freshman college edgelord shit to say "lol my race sucks no more whiteys" at this point, but to be so stupid, tone-deaf, ignorant, arrogant, and autistic to genuinely be confused or shocked that the average person responds "no, and also fuck you" is proof that "higher education" begins with a lobotomy (in spirit, if not in physical deef).

Like, even though everybody knows niggers are inferior and deserve to be stamped out (including niggers), it's still generally considered a cunt move to just straight up say it publicly and though you may be based for being willing to do it anyway, you do so fully aware of (and prepared for) the pre-programmed NPC backlash you'll feel for it.

Not me. Sportsball is meaningless. I understand the need for the bread & circus but no one remembers the names of 99.9999% of the athletes of ancient Greece and we really shouldn't immortalize modern Bipedal Strategic Ball Ambulation Units™ more than people who actually make meaningful improvements to (or creates notable setbacks for) humanity.

At the risk of being crude, in a hundred years nobody's going to give a fuck about DeShawn GigaNog Prisonbitch Pigskin Kicker, Esq. the 3rd, but they'll still speak of Hitler and Trump in hushed tones. And that thought cracks me the fuck up.

Unless the sportsman's name has a unique combination of letters, in which case you'll have to pry it out of crossword puzzle creators' hands.

I don't know anything about sports except that Mel Ott played for the New York Giants, Bobby Orr was in the Bruins, and Ernie Els is a golf man.
