And we all thought the plastic guitar was dead.

Tbh, as an avid rhythm gamer, I'm pretty happy about this. Hopefully, if the rumored new Guitar Hero comes out, rhythm games might not be as niche as they are now.

Rockband was all the daze for me back when I was in highschool. It was what made me get my ps3 life upgrade. I remember having to wield a steel plate to my Rockband plastic drum foot pedal because it broke easy as shit prior to Rockband 2 existing. Then end up playing those endless setlists in the first two games that took hours to beat in one sitting, especially the 2nd one, since you had like, 80 songs, and you couldn't freaking pause the game. Bladder of Steel was the achievement, I believe.

I regretted nothing.

But it's great Rockband 4 is a reality, though I don't feel as hyped up as I was that long ago. Hope it kicks a lot of ass though.

As much as how I only played one of the Guitar Hero games, I must say, I find this surprising since one would hear much of a game like this. Hopefully, it can put back some sort of interest in rhythm games, especially since said rhythm games can have songs that are memorable.

Rhythm games have never been niche. They've been popular in Asian countries for a ridiculously long time.

The entire reason why it was dead over here is because these companies killed it by trying to make it a yearly franchise sort of deal. Which will eventually kill any franchise if done for too long. The only way this sort of game can work is if they make one game, and sell DLC for it for 3-4 years before they make another.

Which I hope is what they're going to do since it'd make the most amount of money.

This is what Rocksmith did. 2 game over the span of 4 years with a ton of DLC. What used to always get me about both Rock Band and Guitar Hero was how fast they'd pump out entirely new editions. I worked for an electronics retailer back when they were peaking, and it seemed like every 6 weeks we'd be pushing some new version of Rockband. The Beatles, Aerosmith, Van Halen, and the 35287649387 other versions they launched that could have just been DLC expansions. They flooded the market imo.

Rocksmith seems to have been doing alright in terms of sales. Although it is a much more niche market since it's more of a guitar teaching aid than an actual game.

If they attempted to do it with a Rock Band/Guitar Hero game I foresee it'd do much better in today's sales climate. Especially given how popular DLC is today and how it could legitimately benefit a rhythm game very well.

Well, the arcade scene in Japan is different than that of the US. They haven't totally shifted towards redemption games, which allows games like beatmania IIDX and DDR to be much more popular than in the states.

That being said you're absolutely right about how GH/RB fell. I'm mostly hoping that another hardcore community will rise up around it, because right now, all I have is the osu! community to keep me company. *shudders*
