I can't blame Roger Ebert for this since it was made after his death but the 2014 documentary "Life Itself" is one of the worst maudlin pieces of shit I've ever watched.

To sum up Roger Ebert is easy, he was a total success. Him and Siskel had a small soapbox and got to inform the masses about movies they should and shouldn't see. I don't know if it's possible to say whether or not Siskel and Ebert made Hollywood better (or worse) but honestly I'd guess they had small positive effect. I imagine there were quite a few smaller scale movies sold more tickets or had rented VHS tapes because of the praise given to them on the show. I remember my family watched Siskel & Ebert, I have no doubt they influenced what my family saw. And kudos to them for lambasting the concept of Colorization being used to alter classic films, thank God Hollywood fuckery only got so far as Pan & Scan.

But anyway that shitty documentary only focuses on the final years for Ebert, and yes having a horrid cancer that causes you to lose your jaw sounds terrifying but still that was the end of his life and even then he still lived comfortably doing what he loved, watching movies and analyzing them. But the documentary is focused purely on making you feel bad for Ebert. One of the last people who would merit pity.

We're all gonna die, why would I feel bad for a wealthy film critic? I'll end this bump with something positive; Ebert's short commentary on Citizen Kane. I still can't say I enjoy Citizen Kane but when I saw this video it made me understand why the movie holds such a status.

yeah, obviously losing your jaw and voice sucks ass, but it probably sucks a whole lot more ass for somebody who doesn't have thousands of hours of their voice recorded and the money to get a vocaloid of yourself made to computer out what you want to say
