Oh boy, I should catch up on this terrible.

7th Sea is relaunching again too, given how much the last one pandered to current year sensibilities this should too be hilarious.

The pandering in 7th Sea 2e wasn't too bad, though I didn't read the books about places outside of Not-Europe. (Once again, the appeal of 7th Sea is outrageous national stereotypes, don't focus on the blacks and indians.) The base system just kind of sucked, so even if the world map was nicer to look than 1e, it was less fun to play.

I shouldve known when I saw the words "Cultural consultant" below the books authors.
I vaguely remember Mr. Welch mentioning that his Injun sensitivity readers for Mystara got into an argument because one loved the Spanish for stamping out the Aztec Empire. :D

What you described is present in every modern, historical or semi-historical scenario set in the South. We can't have nice Johnny Rebs, Lost Causers or even proud Southerners anymore because a furious Yankee, carpetbagger of self-hater wants to refight the Civil War. Adam Scott Glancy of Delta Green fame got his ass handed to him on his own Facebook profile a few days ago for this. I watched the Little Women anime as a kid because it was sandwiched between two shows I liked and even the Japs knew that Confederate soldiers were human beings who missed their families and homes. They occupy the March house in a scene and search for an escaped black teen they want to conscript. One of the girls plays piano for them as a distraction and they have tears in their eyes.

I'd love details on this.
He posted that the term Union Army is incorrect because it was the US Army that fought traitors instead of another country. Many commenters mentioned the Revolutionary War and that the CSA never wanted to overthrow the government but to break away which prompted Glancy (born and raised in Florida BTW) and his ass kissers to lament the fact that the 13 Southern states weren't ethnically cleansed or partially given to the freed slaves. These SJWs always seem to have genocide and segregation on their minds. :D

The thirst to relitigate the Civil War is both evil and low-IQ.

Yeah, it's the same thing that happened to Deadlands. It wasn't ever cuddly to the rebs, but it did at least treat them as thinking humans with some form of agency and not automatically evil. Well we can't have that in Current Year, so they got retconned into being led by a demon impersonating the president to attempt to invade the north despite having much bigger fish to fry thanks to literal Hell running loose everywhere and getting their asses kicked so the game could remove the CSA as an entity.

I knew they'd banned CSA PCs (because we never have ex-Reb characters in Westerns), but not that the lore reason was so profoundly stupid.

The irony is that for all their talk about misunderstood villains, shades of gray, victims of circumstances, etc etc...

They still end up making villains and dehumanizing them just like every other group of humans they try to claim they're better than.

Those were where it got especially bad.
What sort of pandering? I only have 1st edition and never checked 2nd. I want details.

I remember watching a cheap, sleazy Western from the 60s or 70s a decade ago where a platoon of Confederates took over a small town. The main villain was the officer who didn't tell his men that the war ended. Even he had a good motivation for hating Blacks. A fresh batch from the Muddaland revolted, killed and ate his son while he was fighting for Jeff Davis. That's how it's done the right way.

I think I literally saw that movie on the Grit channel 2 weeks ago.

Im not even that big of a Deadlands guy and this fucking pissed me off.

IIRC, the old lore was that the Dead started to rise smack dab in the middle of the war, causing the CSA and Union to form an uneasy "ceasefire" which led to alternate history and allowed for a large variety of characters.

And then I think it was the anniversary, the re-writers got all persnickety and made it a point to say "NUH UH, ACTUALLY THE CSA LOST AND THEN THE ZOMBIES ATTACKED, TAKE THAT CHUDS."

I dont necessarily want to get into the politics of the matter too hard, but if nothing else I fucking can't stand how childish it feels whenever these people do this. They get their grubby little hands on something they never cared about, and change everything for no other reason than to defeat the imaginary bad guys they made up in their heads. Its so mean spirited.

Warhammer, Legends of the Five Rings, SCP, the list goes on. They insist and sincerely believe that unless they sanitize everything, the Third Reich will rise and we're going to start gunning down blacks and gays because the option to play a Confederate soldier in a game about ALTERNATE AMERICAN HISTORY exists.

I guess because I liked to play Richtofen in CoD Zombies I am personally funding the rebuilding of gas chambers too, by their fucking logic.

As another poster said, it's all so tiresome.

I am at least blessed that alot of stuff like L5R, Deadland, and other stuff from the 90s/early 00s are relatively cheap to buy physical or easy to find online, and these self righteous dickheads will never be able to rip these books out of my hands.

It's been a while so can't remember a lot verbatim. A lot of it was the general "white people and team of diversity consultants writing about non-white settings" drivel that's two steps above magical negro pandering but I remember some bits of the Crescent Empire

The Empire's just an Empress and naturally as a strong female POC she institutes sweeping reforms that everyone loves except for eeeevil people. One of which is the elimination of the class system which she expects every part of the Empire to have done within 10 years.

I could point out how impossible that would be but despite having the clearly established class system the book really doesn't want to talk about actual caste systems so in the legal system talked instead about what a stunningly benign legal system the empire had, founded on equality (despite having a class system that needed to be abolished).

Oh and a sidebar also explained that slavery is illegal but indentured servitude is fine, using the specific example of a mother selling her children, and noted the government gets a fifth of proceeds from this. Guess what the Empress did not abolish?

Interactions of those kinds years ago have left with me the impression that leftists are so boxed in by their side's insistence on anti-racism that the one ethnic group they're allowed to hate, white Southern Americans, gets absolute Nazi-level hatred.

They still end up making villains and dehumanizing them just like every other group of humans they try to claim they're better than.
"That's different because racists aren't human." They explicitly say that it's wrong to "humanize" anyone on the wrong side of the Civil War or WWII. They really do believe they were demon-possessed monsters.

They literally do believe these things led to something even worse, the election of Donald Trump. Playing as CSA vet -> thinking Confederates were human -> thinking the South had a just cause -> thinking slavery & racism are good -> voting for Trump.
