One of the very few things I liked about the end of Game of Thrones was a little bit that felt like an active rebuke to these sorts of people, where Samwell Tarly suggests something akin to a democracy - and the rest of the nobles laugh him off. I remember a couple of things at the time from people who wanted that ending, basically abusing the 'breaking the wheel' metaphor for their own progressive wants in something they consoom, as they tend to do.
These are people who have decided the ideas of fun and escapism are politically incorrect - and as they keep saying, 'politically incorrect' is the same as bigotry because it's all about people who want to say slurs and get away with it. They are destroyers of any hobby they come into contact with, and should be treated like The Thing whenever they are encountered.

The closest you're going to get to a 'modern' Western democracy in fantasy right now is Andoran, in Pathfinder, and they're still having growing pains and fistfights in their legislature (though some may view the latter as a feature, not a bug). And right next door is Galt, which is basically Revolutionary France on steroids and a prime example of how things can go oh so wrong.

The hilarious part for me, is that I can already tell exactly what most of the weirdo jannies over there look like. I play AD&D in a games shop near where I live; and the creepy, obese, balding, smelly aspies there all talk like the RPG.net jannies. It's like some sort of weird verbal/written form of physiognomy. I can even sort of hear their tone of voice and see the dead eyed fish stare.

Time isn't the best way of viewing the truth-claims of a religious denomination. Especially based on a false premise. Orthodox Judaism was founded when the creator of modern "progressive" Reform Judaism was in primary school (he was born in 1810).
